23 Products Your Lips Would Probably Thank You For

    Read your lips: thank you.

We hope you love the products we recommend! Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm, which is formulated with antioxidant-rich green tea and softening vitamin E. And that's not to mention the SPF 25 your lips will wanna kiss up to, because sun safety is sexy.

Three tubes of the balm (the tube is the shape of a Carmex tube or small hand lotion) in different flavors: black tea and blackberry, natural mint and shea butter, and shea butter and vitamin E

Promising review: "Hands down the best lip product I’ve ever tried. I was recommended this by someone on Reddit, and I am so happy I tried it! I’ve experienced severely dry, cracked lips since I was a teenager, and basically everything I’ve tried in the past has failed me on one level or another. ChapStick, Eos, Vaseline, expensive salves from Sephora, lip scrubs from Lush — probably over 50 products in the past 10 years. I’ve been using these Jack Black balms for the past six months or so, and my lips look soooo much better. Before, I had cracks and the layer of skin would constantly peel away. I had light scarring and discoloration due to years of dryness and peeling (so gross sorry!). Anyway, the true test of a good lip product is if it can withstand the winter. I live in the Midwest, and we had a particularly rough winter this year, very cold. However, as long as I was wearing this product, my lips were always protected and comfortable. I have six of these floating around my house/purse/work backpack. And I don’t ever see myself using another lip product." —Cara

Get it from Amazon for $8. This listing is for the grapefruit and ginger flavor, but you can find more flavors here.

    2. Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipstick, a hella-pigmented lippie that can last up to 16 hours and will even convert folks who feel "meh" on liquid lipsticks into hard-core devotees. I'm talking all the fabulousness WITHOUT the most annoying parts of most liquid matte formulas.

    Jennifer Tonti/BuzzFeed, Amazon

Promising review: "I've had a love (mostly hate) relationship with liquid lips. They either always dry out my lips, or the applicator is too bulky for me and I end up staining my face, or it'll come off after one meal! But this is the first liquid lip I actually swear by, and it does none of those annoying things! The applicator itself is revolutionary to me; it has a pointed oval shape with a hole in the middle. At first I didn't understand how this was going to help with application, but let me tell you, it was a breeze! The hole in the middle holds a bit of product in it, and as you swipe across the lips it paints a full-coverage coat in one go. You really don't need a lot, either. One thin layer dries down in about a minute. Throughout the day it remains smooth and pigmented. It doesn't crack or peel either! Plus it comes in the cutest colors for every season!" –Jennifer Tonti (check out her full review here, #1)

Get it from Amazon for $7.98 (available in 35 colors).

    3. An exfoliating and moisturizing lip scrub that won't just keep your lips looking healthy when they're bare, but may also help lip colors look better and last longer! Maybe TLC was wrong and scrubs can get some love from you, after all...

It's made with exfoliating raw sugar, plus wax and essential oils that moisturize just like lip balm.

Promising review: "I've had super chapped lips my whole life and recently got super fed up with it, so I got this product after reading the reviews and I can definitely say that it was worth it. I've tried other sugar lip scrubs in the past, mostly from Lush Cosmetics, and while their scrub definitely got rid of a lot of dead skin, it did nothing to moisturize and I was left with equally chapped and almost raw lips the next day. This stuff is combined with a moisturizer so I don't have to worry about my lips going right back to their chapped state. I typically do the scrub right before bed and then put on an overnight lip mask to make sure that I am getting as much moisture as possible, and it has made a world of a difference. DEFINITELY recommend. I saw results the very next day." —Caitlin Park

Get it from Amazon for $14 (available in four flavors).

    4. Glossier Balm Dotcom, a cruelty-free and antioxidant-rich universal skin salve that you can use on your lips or anywhere else for moisture that actually lasts, so it'll put every other balm you've ever tried to shame. Reapplying? I don't know her.

Promising review: "As a lip balm collector, I would like to go out on a limb and say that this is probably the best balm I have used. It stays forever, doesn't wipe off with food or drinks or life, and is super nourishing. It's also really good value for money and lasts forever (mine has been with me for over a year)." —Aayushi S.

Get it from Glossier for $12 (available in eight flavors and tints, including an untinted and unscented version).

    5. An OMG-worthy animal face Lip Smacker, because I'll bet anything your lips miss these flavored balms from middle school and are just plain tired of being slathered with things that taste like petroleum jelly.

Each flavor has a different color bullet, so some provide a slight tint and shine while others are more neutral!

Promising review: "It's tasty without being overwhelming. I love this lip balm! I was so tired of the waxy ones that I was afraid to get this, but it is smooth and keeps my lips much more hydrated. I liked it so much I ordered a second one for my purse." —Elizabeth Trogdon

Get it from Amazon for $2.99+ (available in five animals and flavors).

    6. NYX Butter Gloss, a buildable lipgloss beloved by over 3,500 reviewers that actually won't leave your poor lips all sticky like the other glosses you've tried over the years.,

Promising review: "Skip the expensive mall store — buy this. This is one of those drugstore products that lives up to its reputation. 'Angel Food Cake' is a nice, rose mauve color with no yellow undertones. The color stays true and won’t turn orange while you’re wearing it. It’s not sticky like so many inexpensive lip glosses. It will also keep your lips reasonably hydrated. The color won’t be dramatic enough for some, but as an..ahem...mature woman I need to keep it subtle. This gloss is all you need for everyday wear." —Toomanycats

Get it from Amazon for $3.39+ (available in 19 colors).

    7. BH Cosmetics Waterproof Lip Liner in "Earth," a pretty much universally flattering nude that's super versatile and formulated with vitamin E and jojoba oil for a smooth, softening feel.

The pencil, which has a crayon-like tip and a neutral, pinkish-tan shade
    BH Cosmetics

    It's cruelty-free and vegan!

Promising review: "The color is so pretty on my skin tone and matches perfectly with most of my lipsticks! I use it alone as a lip color and combined with a lipstick. Perfect neutral and it stays a long time!" —Antelma Y.

Get it from BH Cosmetics for $3.75 (originally $5; find it in more colors here).

    8. Lanolips Strawberry 101 Ointment, a sweet-tasting and hella hydrating lanolin formula to give dry, crusty lips a Mia Thermopolis-level makeover. And if your lips are willing to share, you can use it on dry cuticles, too!

Two photos of BuzzFeed Shopping editor Natalie Brown's lips: the top photo says "before Lanolips" and shows her lips with very chapped patches. The bottom says "after Lanolips!" and shows her lips shiny, smooth, and pink with all chapped parts gone

Promising review: "Finally — the holy grail of lip care. It’s thick but not sticky. It’s nourishing but not over the top. It looks like a gloss, but isn’t slippery. Highly recommend." —kamkam

Get it from Anthropologie for $14. Get an unflavored version here.

    9. Classic Aquaphor Lip Repair with soothing and moisturizing ingredients like shea butter, chamomile essence, and vitamins C and E that'll basically give your kisser spa-worthy results for under $5.

Promising review: "I LOVE THIS STUFF. I have tried a number of different things in order to battle my super chapped lips. I purchased an $18 tube of Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment hoping that it would help. Instead it just made my lips feel sticky and the shine almost made the dead skin more noticeable. On a whim I purchased Aquaphor (it was a super cheap cart add-on) and within two uses my lips were baby smooth. It works almost instantly and is just the most hydrating lip balm I've ever used. I've convinced three friends to try it and every single one loves it. I'll never buy another lip balm again." —Z.Y.

Get it from Amazon for $3.97.

    10. Glossier Bubblewrap, a hyaluronic acid, squalane, and avocado oil cream to help keep both your lips and your under-eye area plump and hydrated. Honestly, your lips were looking at all the snazzy serums you use on the rest of your face and were starting to feel a little left out.

    It's cruelty-free, paraben-free, and vegan.

Promising review: "Living in humid Georgia, it doesn’t do what it probably does in drier states but it does leave my lips feeling super hydrated throughout the day and night! As soon as any ChapStick wears off, my lips feel dry even if they’re not. With Bubblewrap I don’t get that feeling. Pairing it with Balm Dotcom is the holy grail of lip care." —Johanna H.

Get it from Glossier for $26.

    11. Burt's Bees 100% Natural moisturizing lipstick, because the go-to brand isn't just for lip balm. Though coincidentally, this lipstick does have hydrating ingredients like jojoba oil and beeswax and is, in fact, the balm.,

Over 1,000 people have left positive reviews!

Promising review: "As a big fan of Burt's lip balm, I decided to give this a try and I LOVE it. I bought the shade called Suede Splash — I was looking for a neutral shade that still gives some color and this was it. It's very creamy, keeping your lips hydrated, but does not melt down on them. It is not fully matte; it has a velvety kind of sheer which I find very pretty. Usually, before applying any lipstick, I need to use a balm, wait until it is completely dry, and then apply lipstick. I do this with MAC and Milani's matte liquid lipsticks. If I don't, my lips look super dry and the product breaks on them. With this lipstick I don't need to do so, which is a huge plus for me." —Rosa Marin Garino

Get it from Amazon for $6.55+ (available in 17 colors).

    12. A handy lip balm holder clip that's exactly the product anyone who's always losing their ChapStick (aka me, you, and probably everyone) has needed all their lives. Because sure, it's great if you've found your favorite brand of balm. But if you can't actually find it to put it on your dang lips, it makes no difference.

A flat lay of the clips in eight prints, from florals to pink leopard print. Each one is a small strip of fabric with a pocket to hold a lip balm and a large metal clip on the end.

Some genius with dry flaky lips (yes, that is also how I would describe myself, but I mean someone else) must have invented this baby. Clip it to your bag, your belt, or your water bottle and you're good to go.

Get one in a random print from Amazon for $2.99 (plus $1 shipping).

    13. Stila Stay All Day liquid lipstick, a creamy lippie that can last for up to 12 hours and just might be a magical, confidence-boosting potion.,

It also claims to soften your lips with the help of vitamin E and avocado oil!

Promising review: "I used to feel so self-conscious about my lips, and I resolved I would only ever wear lip gloss. Then I accidentally ordered this. No joke. It was in my shopping cart on one of those days where I was wistfully wishing I could pull off lipstick and I forgot about it and placed another order and...well there it was. I thought what the heck, I’ll just keep it and maybe give it a go. Wow. I was taken aback because I loved what I saw in the mirror. One coat of the Patina shade and I was amazed by how shapely and lovely my lips were. I've gotten SO many compliments! So there are two lessons here. One, this is a great all-day matte lipstick (that stays on well for the most part, but will transfer so keep tissues on your person). And two, love yourself and don’t be afraid to try something new. I almost missed out on the fun of lipstick because I was judgmental of my own body. Be kind to yourself. ♥️" —Gabby

Get it from Amazon for $22.

    14. Winky Lux Flower Balm, which is basically the equivalent of gifting your lips a beautiful bouquet. Not only does the stick itself look cool, but the product is an awesome mix of a balm and a tint. It reacts with the pH of your lips to turn a personalized pink color once applied!

It's cruelty-free, paraben-free, and vegan! And that flower inside? Yup, it's a real chrysanthemum.

Promising review: "This has quickly become my go-to lip balm. I used to wear zero makeup to work, but now I swipe this on in the morning (and sometimes layer a gloss on top for some extra shine). Alone, the flower balm leaves my lips moisturized all day and the color lasts a few hours!" —Samantha M.

Get it from Winky Lux for $16 (available in four colors) or Target for $16 (available in two colors).

    15. Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick, a classic formula beloved by over 2,000 reviewers and available in basically every color and finish you could ever want. But it's more than just a pretty face — it's made with vitamin E and avocado oil to keep your lips moist.

A reviewer wearing a maroon shade and holding up the black and gold tube. The shade in the tube matches the way it looks on their lips

Promising review: "My favorite lipstick brand for 30+ years. I used to sell cosmetics and I've been a fan of Revlon for a very long time. The pigments are rich and it keeps my lips moist. I have other lipsticks that are way more expensive and either dry out after 15 minutes or have almost no coverage. I'm going back to buying Revlon lipstick almost exclusively. Every time I do, I get compliments." —Shopper

Get it from Sephora for $20 (available in four flavors).

    18. BH Cosmetics' Cashmere Cream Comfort Lipstick, which is formulated to give a full-coverage matte look without being heavy or drying like so many liquid lippies.

    BH Cosmetics

    It's paraben-, gluten-, and cruelty-free!

Promising review: "This is very wearable and feels good on my lips. No drying or tugging. Glides on perfectly and lasts. I would highly recommend it." —Nichole C.

    21. The Fenty Beauty Pro Kiss’r Lip-Loving Scrubstick, a genius, cruelty-free exfoliator in a lipstick shape so you can pamper your pout even on the go.

Apricot seeds in the bullet provide exfoliation for the smoothest lips you ever did ~seed~.

Promising review: "I've FINALLY found a lip scrub that can actually deal with the enormity of my dry lip problem. I compulsively rub my lips together all day long. As a result, I don't just have chapped lips, but closer to calluses. I have EVERY lip exfoliator on the market. The only one that made some improvement was Bite's lip scrub combined with their new overnight balm. Fenty's scrub isn't bitter like Bite's aftertaste can be, and its scrubby bits stay put so you can ACTUALLY get a scrubbing action. When using this, roll the product up just a millimeter or so. DON'T roll up the entire product or, of course, it will break off just like any other lip tube product. A millimeter is all you need and just run it back and forth over your lips. Adjust the pressure to fit your needs. Simple. I've been using it tons since I got it and I've barely used any of it. It may not have a lot of product, but I think it will last me quite a long time. And it has a delicious, delicate banana flavor! Love it!!!!!" —ReluctantSpllCk

Get it from Sephora for $16.

    22. theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes liquid lippie, which is as stunning and long-lasting as it is punny. In addition to the adorbs packaging and product name, each hue is named after a different quality you'd love to find in a date, like "Charming" and "Devoted."

In case you needed even more reason to swipe right (I mean, uh, add to cart), it's paraben- and cruelty-free!

Promising review: "This is absolutely the best formula of matte lipstick I've tried. I love the wand, the color, the packaging, the smell, the staying power, and the way it feels on my lips. It is dry, but it dries SOFT, not hard, and it doesn't cause my lips to shrivel up. I love this. I haven't shut up about it for three weeks. I have a drawer full of lip products and this is my favorite! I'm a nurse and I work 12+ hours at a time. I only touch up ONCE in my shift (after I eat lunch). Drinking coffee and water doesn't affect the wear." —Anne Marie
