You might want to take a detour from these towns during your next cross country road trip...

1. Gatlin, NB - CHILDREN OF THE CORN

Based on the short story by Stephen King, CHILDREN OF THE CORN follows the story of a young couple that wander into the rural mid-western town of Gatlin. The town happens to be inhabited by a cult of children that worship a malevolent force in the corn fields and believe all adults should be murdered. Not exactly an ideal destination for anyone over the age of 18.

2. Ambrose, LA - HOUSE OF WAX

In this 2005 remake of HOUSE OF WAX, a group of college friends wind up with a flat tire near the small ghost town of Ambrose. When they wander into the local wax museum to seek help, they discover they are being hunted by demented twin brothers who have turned all wayward visitors into wax sculptures. Even museum-enthusiasts wouldn't dare to browse this lifelike exhibit.

3. Woodsboro, CA - SCREAM

When Highschooler Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her friends become the targets of a mysterious masked killer known as "Ghostface," local tabloid reporter, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) investigates the case. Suddenly, the peaceful little town of Woodsboro turns into a blood bath, and nobody is safe. With all of the recurring scary movie trivia that precede the killings in SCREAM, you might be hesitant to answer next time someone asks "What's your favorite scary movie?"

4. Fort Dundas, ON - THE CALLING

THE CALLING follows small-town detective, Hazel Micallef (Susan Sarandon) and her deputy Ben Wingate (Topher Grace) on their investigation of a string of gruesome murders that take place in Fort Dundas. The common theme among the killings? Each victim's mouth is contorted to form certain syllables. When Micallef comes face to face with the killer, she discovers he is motivated by a "higher calling." Prayers might not be enough to keep you safe in this town!

5. Hoyer, MN - REGRESSION

Set in Hoyer, Minnesota in 1990, REGRESSION follows Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) as he investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father of an unspeakable crime. Angela's testimony and the information Bruce gathers from regression therapy unmask a horrifying mystery linked to satanic cult rituals. I wouldn't be too thrilled about reliving memories of this town if I were you.

6. Texarkana, TX - THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN

Based on actual crimes attributed to a 1940's serial killer known as "The Phantom Killer," THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN tells the story of an unidentifiable hooded killer who terrorizes the small town of Texarkana. Residents are terrorized by a mysterious killer who stalks his victims during the evening. Might want to cancel those plans to watch the sunset on your romantic date!

7. Covington, PA - THE VILLAGE

The residents of the isolated village of Covington live in fear of the mysterious and deadly creatures that inhabit the surrounding woods. No one dares to venture outside; that is, until Ivy Elizabeth Walker (Bryce Dallas Howard) makes a bold plan to pass through the woods in search of much needed medical supplies. As the story enfolds, the truth about the outside world is more shocking than can be imagined...as the village elders would say, what happens in Covington stays in Covington.

8. Haddonfield, IL - HALLOWEEN

On the night of Halloween in 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers is locked away in Smith's Grove Sanitarium after brutally murdering his sister with a kitchen knife.
