I will introduce myself as Katie, I hate being called Katherine, and literally get called any K name people can think of. Most common is Kelly. Even my mother-in-law's called me Kelly one time. No one we know is named Kelly.

Long time ago, I used to go to a hair salon called Your Friend The Hairdresser. People would ask where I get my hair done, and I would tell them Your Friend The Hairdresser, and the would say, "I don't have a friend who is a hairdresser." Very Who's On First.
