The Real Life Landmarks Of TV's Fan-Crazed Shows

Luke's Diner, Central Perk, and McLaren's Pub may have been filmed on Hollywood sound stages, but these road trip-worthy sites from popular television shows of the past are all real, even if their onscreen counterparts weren't.

Fisher & Sons Funeral Home

Program: Six Feet Under

Address: 2302 W. 25th St., Los Angeles, CA 90018 ‎

HBO's dark dramedy used The Auguste Marquis Residence in West Adams, Los Angeles for its show's homebase and funeral home. The house is currently home to the Filipino Federation of America; it was land-marked as a Historic-Cultural Monument in 1994.

Panther Field House

Program: Friday Night Lights

Address: Flow Lane & Del Valle Street, Austin, TX 78617

Friday Night Lights was filmed almost entirely on location, with Austin subbing for the fictional towns Dillon and East Dillon. The Panther Field House still stands, at Del Valle High School; remnants of coach's office, team grafiti, and the show's mantra are still inside. There's even debris from the scrappy East Dillon Lions. Nearby fans can visit the Alamo Freeze (a Dairy Queen with limited memorabilia), Ray's BBQ, the former garage and tract of land belonging to Tim Riggins, and Matt Saracen's house. You can see Vulture's helpful list online, and this tour from A.V. Club should tide you over until your plane lands in Panthers Country.

Monk's Café

Program: Seinfeld

Address: 2880 Broadway, New York, NY 10025

Tom's Restaurant in Morningside Heights, Manhattan served as the exterior of Seinfeld's Monk's Café, where Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer gathered to eat and kvetch. Tom's looks nothing like Monk's on the inside, as interior shots were filmed on a soundstage in Los Angeles. Tom's is proud of its pop culture heritage, which includes Suzanne Vega's 1987 hit "Tom's Diner." The establishment sells branded souvenirs for fans of the show (or family-owned Greek diners). Jerry, George, and Newman returned to Tom's in January to film an episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee and a Super Bowl commercial.

Double R Diner

Program: Twin Peaks

Address: 137 W. North Bend Way, North Bend, WA 98045

You can order a slice of cherry pie and a cup of "damn fine" coffee at this diner, if even if Norma Jennings isn't behind the counter to serve you. Other areas of North Bend and neighboring towns Snoqualmie served as exterior locations of the haunting and mysterious town.

William McKinley High School

Program: Freaks And Geeks

Address: 13000 Oxnard St., Van Nuys, CA 91401

Ulysses S. Grant Senior High School in Los Angeles has been used for various productions; without one of the Weirs in the frame, it may look more familiar as the setting for Clueless or The Secret Life of the American Teenager. But in this short-lived teen dramedy, the educational institution is William McKinley High School, and the site of much angst and reluctant learning.
