1. A Giant Lego Man

In 2011, a giant Lego man washed up on the shores of Sarasota's Siesta Key. Some people thought it was a marketing ploy, one woman cried, "It's the UFO people!", and 1000% of 8-year-olds rejoiced. Apparently, Lego man castaways are quite common: He's shown up in Holland in 2007 and in England in 2008.

2. Tea Packets

A cargo ship that was definitely trying to reenact the Boston Tea Party accidentally dumped nine containers of tea and biscuits into the oceans surrounding Rajbandar, India in 2010. The biscuits were oily, though.

3. Bananas. Lots of Bananas.

In the best news for a monkey since a young Thora Birch, the Dutch island Terschelling received a beach of thousands of green bananas when cargo fell off a ship. That's just, well, bananas.

4. Sports-Themed Fly Swatters

The beaches of Kodiak were graced with the refined beauty of the sports team fly swatter when a crate of them fell off a shipping container in 2012. Two terrific things come from this event. 1. I learned there was a such thing as a sports-themed fly swatter and 2. Nerf balls were also washed ashore.

5. Toys and Mysterious Suitcases

Terschelling island has just the right amount of current and the optimal wind direction to be the recipient of literally tons of debris a year. Suspect silver suitcases and huge hula hoop-like toys proved to be an oddly paired gift from one cargo ship.

6. A 35,000-year-old Tribal Chieftain

What is believed to be the casket and remains of a Bronze Age tribal chieftain washed ashore on Constantine Island in 2008. Spooky? Maybe. Astonishing? Yes.

7. Doritos

A North Carolina coast line was spoiled with riches in 2006 when a broken cargo container of Doritos washed ashore. As you can see above, the wreck catered to the two opposing fan bases of Cooler Ranch and Nacho Cheese.

9. A "Beach Pod"

An odd pod showed up on the beaches of Japan and kind of freaked everybody out. What was it? A new sea creature, an alien life form, a piece of coral? They eventually figured out it was just a prop for the movie The Bournemouth Incident.*

*Not to be confused with any produced movie that you've actually heard of.

10. Drugs

Call it pedestrian, but when free (and soon-to-be confiscated) drugs show up in copious amounts on a beach, it's pretty fascinating. Earlier this week, the Florida Keys saw two instances of 20 foot-long bricks of cocaine turning up flotsam and jetsam style. Some dude in Florida is scrounging around in the sands "looking for his lost wallet".
