I think it's time to talk about You...
In Season 2, we are introduced to Love in LA. We get a whole new set of characters such as Ellie and Forty. Unfortunately, they don't last very long as Joe has the tendency to destroy everything he touches. Getting to meet Love for the first time was really cool as we get a character almost identical to Joe. However, it seems as though Love's character was made to be shown in a darker light despite Joe exhibiting the same behavior she does. I was very upset by Forty's death and Love remaining with Joe despite it ultimately being his fault.
The idea of Joe being in L.A. was also a bit interesting to grasp given his personality is the complete opposite of the person he attempts to be in order to fit in.
Season 1 is where we first meet our protagonist (antagonist ?) Joe Goldberg. It's all very new and we're picking up on who he is as a character, and in some ways, he manipulates the audience into believing he genuinely has Beck's best interest at heart. However, it ultimately ended in her untimely death as she finds out Joe killed her best friend and ex boyfriend. This season definitely was very engaging, again, as we are getting to know Joe's character. Although, looking back on it, there was not a lot of action involved and mainly just predatory Joe stalking Beck in the most perverted ways. Yikes.
If you want to talk about a complete departure then Season 4 is where we'll begin. I'll be honest, it took me a couple months to finally finish this season as I felt it dragged on a bit, but as the second half of the season unfolded, I couldn't help but be completely shocked by every twist and turn that was revealed. Personally, I felt as though the plot was a little bit predictable, however, it was executed very well. It's about time Joe begins spiraling into himself and realizing the weight of his past as he's gone this far without seemingly getting caught. I'm not too sure how I feel about the ending: Joe finding yet another way to get away with it and poor Kate willing to provide Joe with the protection he was, of course, able to find. Season 4 is a very close second of being my favorite, but again, it just completely took me off guard and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.
Season 3 is by far my favorite season of You. Love is still in the picture and this time, Joe is married with a baby boy. Seeing Joe in a picture perfect family portrait in Madre Linda was a complete departure from the personality he shows us in Season 1. Seeing their marriage fall apart as the season progresses gave the show the action it so desperately needed. With all the new characters and rising suspicion, it left me on the edge of my seat. The final episode brought high tension as we see Love is onto Joe and tries to murder him before he can get the chance to kill her. However, Joe is always 5 steps ahead and was able to outsmart Love and fake a murder-suicide in order to escape to France and terrorize Marienne.
