Although most countries in the world have already welcomed 2016, much of Asia is still counting down to Lunar New Year, aka the day we receive red envelopes stuffed with cold, hard cash.

Lunar New Year falls on Feb. 8 this year.

But if you've ever wondered what the deal is with the dancing lions prancing about everywhere on Lunar New Year's Day, then you are not alone.

In order to explain these mythical creatures, Tumblr user Ireny Draws has made a guide to Chinese lion dance as an art form.

The delightful illustrations by the Taiwanese-American illustrator, who was in a lion dance troupe in high school, has been shared widely in the lead-up to the Lunar New Year.
