Warning: Spoilers from Marvel's D23 Expo 2022 showcase are included in this article.
The MCU just keeps growing. I was live and in the building for the Marvel showcase at D23 Expo 2022, and I'm still crying after seeing the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever footage.
Here is everything that Marvel Studios previewed at D23 Expo 2022.
1. The showcase started with a five-minute live Rogers: The Musical opening. Was not expecting that!
🎶 We can do this all day 🎶 The Marvel Studios Panel kicks off at #D23Expo!
2. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
#BlackPantherWakandaForever cast here at #D23Expo2022. Here's #LetitiaWright speaking about the upcoming sequel.
Director Ryan Coogler and the cast, including Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Tenoch Huerta, and Angela Bassett, showed the audience about three minutes of Wakanda Forever footage along with a new trailer.
In the footage, we see Queen Ramonda speaking with the UN (or the MCU's version of them). The UN is requesting that Wakanda trade Vibranium; however, the Queen says she doesn't trust the other nations of the world. Meanwhile. we get a dope action scene of soldiers trying to steal Vibranium from a submarine, but they get their asses handed to them by the Dora Milaje. Next, we were treated to a brand-new trailer. Fans got blessed with tons of new footage, like Namor menacingly speaking to the Queen and another Black Panther shot (with no face to confirm who is in the suit, although it is definitely a woman). We also see Lord M'Baku fighting Namor.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters on November 11, 2022.
3. Ironheart
An exclusive teaser of “Iron Heart” is being shown at #D23Expo The series also has a new logo!
Marvel gave fans the first official trailer for Ironheart, a series from Ryan Coogler. In the footage, we see RiRi Williams (Dominique Thorne) in a very DOPE looking suit of armor, some cool battle scenes, and of course, a look at The Hood (played by Anthony Ramos). Ironheart touches down on Disney+ in 2023.
4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Here's the #AntManandTheWaspQuantumania cast talking before showing #D23Expo and exclusive trailer. I can confirm that #Modok looks like the gold robot head. Also Kang in full armor (no helmet) looks AMAZING. Comic accurate suit thats more armor/Iron Man looking. #Kang #Marvel
Welcome to the stage Paul Rudd, Jonathan Majors, and Evangeline Lilly. We were blessed with the trailer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang in full armor, minus the mask, looks *chef's kiss*. It looks very comic accurate as far as styling and color, but the armor fits more like Tony Stark's Iron Man suit than a robe-like material. I can also confirm the gold robot-looking Modok image floating around online is pretty accurate. ... That's what he looks like.
In the trailer, Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) creates a signal to the Quantum Realm that ends up sucking the whole family in. From there, Kang captures Cassie and asks Ant-Man to steal something for him in return. ... I wonder what artifact Kang may want...
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
5. Werewolf By Night
☁️🌕 𝔚𝔢𝔯𝔢𝔴𝔬𝔩𝔣 𝔟𝔶 𝔑𝔦𝔤𝔥𝔱
Fans were treated to this trailer of Werewolf by Night, starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly. The special hits Disney+ on October 7, 2022.
6. Secret Invasion
#DonCheadle and #KevinFeige speak #secretinvasion at #D23Expo2022. It will tie directly into #armorwars. The trailer was amazing and we see War Machine teaming up with Nick Fury.
Don Cheadle came out to introduce Secret Invasion with a new trailer. It begins with War Machine (sans armor) and Nicky Fury talking about an invasion, before we get several action-packed clips and Skrull battles. It appears the trailer released online is missing much of the footage shown at D23. Kevin Feige and Cheadle announced that Secret Invasion will tie directly into Armor Wars. Secret Invasion debuts in 2023 on Disney+.
"I'm the last person standing between them and what they really want." Marvel Studios' #SecretInvasion, an Original series, streaming 2023 on @DisneyPlus .
7. Armor Wars
Just announced at #D23Expo, Don Cheadle will return in Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars, coming to @DisneyPlus.
Not much was said, and nothing was shown of Armor Wars. However, Don Cheadle and Kevin Feige promised that it would connect directly to Secret Invasion. We can expect this series to hit Disney+ sometime in 2023.
8. Loki Season 2
Here is the cast of #Loki season 2 at #D23Expo #Marvel. #TomHiddleston #SophiaDiMartino #OwenWilson
Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Sophia Di Martino surprised D23 with exclusive footage of Loki Season 2. One scene that really stood out was Loki using a Time Stick to break through a wall with images of the Time Keepers to reveal a gold carving of Kang's face behind them. Can't wait for this one! Loki Season 2 is expected to hit Disney+ summer 2023.
9. Fantastic Four
Just announced at #D23Expo, Matt Shakman to direct Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four. In theaters November 8, 2024.
While we were expecting a BIG Fantastic Four cast announcement, Kevin Feige only gave fans one nugget of info: The film will be directed by WandaVision alumni Matt Shakman. Marvel's first family will touch down in theaters on November 8, 2024.
10. Echo
Everyone cheering in American Sign Language for Marvel Studios’ Echo. #D23Expo
I love me some Vincent D'Onofrio. He and the Echo cast, including Alaqua Cox and Zahn McClarnon, hit the Hall D23 stage to give fans a first look at Echo. In the trailer, we see Kingpin return with a bandage patch over his eye. Some beautifully choreographed Native American fighting scenes were the highlight here. Echo debuts on Disney+ in 2023.
11. Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again 👀 #D23Expo
Charlie Cox joined Vincent D'Onofrio on stage, but since filming has not started, there was nothing to show. Instead, Cox graced us with about two minutes of footage from his upcoming She-Hulk cameo. Daredevil: Born Again will run for 18 episodes on Disney+ in 2024, and will connect with Echo.
12. Captain America: New World Order
Tim Blake Nelson is back as The Leader in #CaptainAmericaNewWorldOrder after first appearing in Hulk alllll those years ago. Also, we get a new #Falcon in Danny Ramirez. #D23Expo2022 #Marvel
Sam is my Captain...PERIODT! Anthony Mackie, Tim Blake Nelson (back as The Leader after first appearing in The Incredible Hulk in 2008), Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, and director Julius Onah hopped on stage to give us a quick update...but no footage. It looks like we'll get our new Falcon in Ramirez! Also, love seeing Isaiah Bradley return. Captain America: New World Order will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
13. Thunderbolts
We have our official #Thunderbolts cast! Announced at #D23Expo2022. We get Ghost, US Patriot, Winter Soldier, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, Black Widow, and Valentina. Here's the cast speaking on the film: #Marvel
Marvel's gang of bad guys has been officially introduced! The Thunderbolts cast was brought on stage, which included Florence Pugh (Black Widow), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Wyatt Russell (US agent), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), and of course, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine). Thunderbolts is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
14. The Marvels
#TheMarvels is about the 3 heroes teleporting and trading places every time they use their powers. They have to team up to fix their problem
Lastly, Feige welcomed director Nia DaCosta, Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani on stage. Fans were treated to a trailer for The Marvels. It opened with Spectrum (Parris) in space with Nick Fury investigating an alien energy source. However, the source causes Spectrum to switch places with Ms. Marvel, who then switches places with Captain Marvel (as we saw in the conclusion of Ms. Marvel). In the new trailer, it appears that whenever our heroes use their powers, they swap places. Lots of mind-blowing action and quippy dialogue made this trailer one of the most fun to watch. The body-swapping dynamic also looks hella cool. The Marvels hits theaters on July 28, 2023.
15. Marvel's Midnight Suns (Gaming)
View this video on YouTube
Sorry, folks, this isn't a movie. Marvel gave fans some action-packed Marvel Midnight Suns gaming footage. Gamers can create their own hero, The Hunter, and will play alongside (and as) Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Blade, Ghost Rider, Nico, Magik, Ironman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Spidey, and Scarlet Witch. Game developers say that dialogue here is important, making it a true RPG. Who you interact with, and how, will determine storylines, friendships, and foes.
Lilith will be the villain, after Hydra discovers her tomb and awakens her. As the mother of demons, expect her to control and corrupt heroes...which means you'll be fighting your own allies!
Marvel's Midnight Suns hits next-gen consoles and PC on December 2, 2022.
16. Unnamed Captain America/Black Panther WWII Title (Gaming)
This is the unnamed #Marvel #WW2 game they just previewed. It looks amazing and I love that we get 3 Black playable characters and Cap America. https://t.co/VlQfJNnbNd
So, Marvel showed us a quick glimpse at an unnamed WWII game that will star Captain America, Black Panther (King Azzuri, T'Challa's grandfather), Gabe Jones (the only Black member of the Howling Commandos), and Nanali (A Wakanda spy and leader). All four are playable heroes in this socio-political RPG game.
Race and politics are said to play a major role, which will make this a very emotional story of war and what a nation must do to survive. There is no slated release date announced.
17. Marvel World of Heroes (Gaming)
We are all Heroes in MARVEL World of Heroes. Your Super Hero journey begins in 2023. Pre-register now at https://t.co/W5jUWJwJ9P
From the creators of Pokémon GO comes Marvel World of Heroes. Essentially, it IS Pokémon GO for Marvel. Gamers will use their mobile devices to go out into the world and interact with AR MCU heroes and villains. Not much was shared other than that, but I can see this getting very popular, very fast.
