As Australia continues to burn, Turia Pitt and Grace McBride have launched a new Instagram account encouraging shoppers to spend with Aussie businesses affected by the bushfires.

Spend With Them is a way to put money directly in the pockets of the people and communities who have been most affected by the bushfires — and will feature relevant retailers and small businesses from all around Australia.

"We are profiling businesses in fire-affected towns," Pitt tells BuzzFeed Australia. "It’s a way for people to directly support the people and communities who really need it right now."

The account was inspired by Tegan Weber’s #GoWithEmptyEskys campaign, but offers Aussies an opportunity to support the affected towns without having to visit them.

"Given it’s not safe to travel to fire-affected communities just yet, this is a way to support businesses right now," says Pitt. "As much as we want to support all businesses in fire-affected towns, we can’t yet encourage visitation to these areas. So, online and phone ordering options are best for us to promote for now."

"The reality is, these towns and communities are going to need our help long after the initial threat is over," says Pitt.

"Many of these communities rely on the tourism dollar to survive and this should be the busiest time of the year — the time to make the money that will see them through the rest of the year."
