A Moment Of Silence For The Pure Chaos That Was The Pig Latin Plotline From "Home And Away"
It's been 17 years, but this is still the most absurd thing to come out of Summer Bay.
Look, by now, we know that Home And Away has had its fair share of unexplainably bizarre storylines.
And I'm not trying to be a snob — I get it, it's good old-fashioned fun, it doesn't always have to make sense.
But I'm not kidding when I say that nothing will ever come close to eclipsing the absolute mayhem that was Tasha Andrews' arrival in Summer Bay.
Tasha is first introduced to viewers when a young Max Sutherland spots her walking along the beach. She is then apparently so spooked by Max that she, get this, jumps straight into the sea. Like, full on H2O style.
This actually is a scene from H2O: Just Add Water, but honestly, the same thing basically happens, but without the mermaid tail.
Then, because she just loves that damn beach so much, she actually returns to the exact spot the next day — where Max once again approaches her. This time, while trying to escape, she trips over, sprains her ankle and passes out cold.
It's a wild ride.
As luck would have it, a strapping young doctor is walking by at this exact moment, so he scoops Tasha up and takes her back to his surgery.
And this is when things really start to go off the rails. While trying to communicate with this young, spritely, blonde thing, the residents of Summer Bay soon discover that Tasha cannot speak a word of English...she can only speak PIG LATIN.
The best part of this is that, by its very definition, you need to be able to speak English in order to speak Pig Latin. But not for old mate, Tashy. Oh no, she is fluent only in the purest of Pig dialect.
I can't even tell you how long this goes on for, because I've probably blocked it out, but at some stage Irene takes Tasha under her wing and begins teaching her English.
It is at this point, evidently, that actress Isabel Lucas finally became confident enough to have actual lines.
Then, you know, she goes through all the regular character milestones: Enrols in high school, falls in love, joins a cult, gets impregnated by cult leader, escapes with cult baby, reunites with high school sweetheart, until finally she moves away with her family to the USA.
Never to return to the sunnier shores of Summer Bay.
So here's to Tasha, thank you for the years of entertainment. Eway ovelay ouyay*.
(*We love you, duh).
