This Woman's Art-Inspired Makeup Transformations Are So Stunning

"It's just paint, and the face can be a canvas."

Makeup artist Lexie Lazear has been transforming herself into famous paintings, with some truly incredible results.

The California-based woman, who has been a professional makeup artist for 18 years, was inspired to create the makeup series while looking at the reflections in the water in Van Gogh's Starry Night Over the Rhone.

“I got a big response from Instagram and my friends and family, and decided to make it a series,” Lazear told BuzzFeed.

"I love art, so I started with pieces that have always spoken to me, and plan to keep going until I'm struck by a new inspiration."

Lazear said she enjoys finding a way to combine traditional beauty elements with the more literal parts of paintings.

"I think my favorite part is...deciding what will go where, and how to make it not just a copy of the painting on my face, but instead make the painting as fantasy makeup," she said.

"I think that makeup is an art," Lazear said.

"It has this unique duality in that it's also functional, and a huge amount of people use it daily as part of their own style and/or to help them feel confident.

"It's also just paint, and the face can be a canvas."

As inspiration strikes, Lazear plans on recreating more paintings through makeup.

"Art is expression," she said. "And we're all unique, looking for ways to express that."
