Pick A Skyscraper And We'll Tell You What Cheap Activity To Do In NYC

Or do literally any of the other amazing things that Bryant Park has to offer. Sorry, I'm kind of obsessed with Bryant Park. But seriously. They show movies, have games and dances, provide workshops, host artists, put on performances of Shakespeare... it is definitely worth a visit. 

Take a Free Class in Bryant Park

Bring a blanket, some food and a bottle of sunscreen to Chelsea Waterside Park. If you're willing to spend a little, buy a $12 day pass to use Citi Bikes and you can bike to your picnic. Extend the trip by biking along the water afterwards, and maybe even taking a trip up to Central Park.

Although there are free comedy shows available, I would recommend the Upright Citizen's Brigade. You can go to a show for $5-$7. The incredible Amy Poehler was part of the original UCB group, and both Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer of Broad City studied there. Talk about powerful women in comedy!

There are a lot of free outdoor movies in NYC. Try Brooklyn Bridge Park (which has music before the movie, and food and drinks that you can purchase) or Bryant Park to get started on your search!

I know this sounds bizarre, but there are a lot of live games like this in NYC. This one is called Confidential: The Game, and is essentially a live scavenger hunt. Your job is to be the first spy to find your "person of interest," and you have the chance to win $100 and a bottle of champagne. There are a lot of great outdoor concerts in the city, and here are two great websites you can use to find them:

Go to an Outdoor Concert

Head to Free Shakespeare in the Park, brought to you by Public Theater. You can get tickets by lottery or by lining up at noon the day of the show. The performances are truly incredible, and very accessible for every level of Shakepeare fan, whether you have every soliloquy memorized or you're not even 100% sure that he was the guy who wrote Romeo and Juliet.

It is possible to go free to tapings of Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Late Night with Seth Meyers, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and more! Most of them are pretty in-demand, so try to plan ahead of time, but it's easy to find the information on how to get tickets on each of their respective websites.
