Combining the warmth of the Mediterranean sea with the cosmipolitan feel of many of Europe's most visited destinations, Montpellier's wide array of cultural offerings are not to be missed! Here are the top 5 picks for things to do in the city.
Live a sunday you won’t forget ! Family Piknik festival takes place on the first sunday of August. It is an open-air festival, taking place in a very green and natural environment, so you can rest with your friends and family under the trees in between two moves of dance. With 2 stages dedicated to Deep, House & Techno, Family Piknik is an imitate venue, with mature and crazy people who know how to party ! Families and children are welcome, as well as « pique-nique » so you can really have fun while the best international DJs are in action. In 2018, we’ll have artists like Marco Carola, Black Coffee, Luciano, Booka Shade, Hot Since 82, Miss Kittin, Claude Vonstroke and many many more for you. Ah, last but not the least.. We have a free opening concert on friday evening !
Looking for an authentic and affordable restaurant to have a taste of our French gastronomy? Just enter Le Paresseur, located in the center of Montpellier, you’ll be blown away by the quality of their products, only local and natural. Vegetables from their own garden, best meat and great wines. Ask for a table downstairs, you’ll feel like eating in a cave. You’ll be surprised by the cost of your menu, as this restaurant offers a great moment without ruining your budget!
Just hang out and walk around Place de la Comédie to smell the Mediterranean atmosphere. The old city is a great labyrinth of tight streets (forbidden to cars) and you’ll love feeling the peaceful vibes all around. It’s also a good way to find out about the history of Montpellier and, more globally, learn about the old « langue d’Oc », which was the spoken language in the south of France until the Renaissance.
Montpellier is just 15 minutes away from Mediterranean sea ! You can’t miss these long stripes of sand located at the south. For example, we recommend you going to Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, which combines very nice beaches, front sea restaurants (« Paillottes » in French) with delicious fish and oysters as well as great historic monuments. If you like kite surf, you’ll be even happier as it’s a real nice spot to do so. Good news, you can go there in bus or book a taxi/Uber for less than 20€. Trust us, it’s worth it !
