Addison Rae Opened Up About Dealing With The "Backhanded" Compliments She Gets About Her Body

"I am learning to love my body and who I am, for what I am."

TikTok’s Addison Rae has dealt with her fair share of trolls over the years, and after reading many negative comments about her body, she says those words can be very “triggering" for her.

"I am 20 and my body is constantly changing," she told Glamour UK. "But people have this high standard around body image and say, ‘Oh, you have to look like this to look great or to look hot or to be cool or to be pretty.'"

"For me, a lot of people have said, ‘Oh I love how comfortable she is and she doesn't look like the beauty standard,'" Addison continued. “It's a backhanded compliment sometimes because people will be like, ‘I'm so glad she's confident that she doesn't look perfect.'"

The social media star noted that “everyone’s perfect” in their own way, and even though it “hurts” to read those negative comments about her looks, she won’t let her haters affect her self-esteem.

"I have thought a lot in the past year that it doesn't really define me and I am learning to love my body and who I am, for what I am,” she said. “If you can't mentally, emotionally, or physically love who you are, it becomes really difficult to even be happy."

Thanks to therapy, Addison has learned how to deal with her haters in her own way.

"Just being able to have someone to talk to has been a big thing for me and understanding that if you let people understand you a little more, then they will," she said.

It sounds like Addison knows that no matter what people write about her, she’ll always continue to smile because she knows her self-worth.
