This Is Everything That Went Down In Week 5 Of "Love Island"

Two words: dead ting.

The drama has been non-stop this week, and we're here to break it all down, from the post-Casa Amor recouplings, to the double dumpings, and love confessions.

Ben: With Hanifah away, I'm taking on her Love Island commentary duties and let me tell you, I feel so drained by this week. It has been the emotional rollercoaster I've always dreamed Love Island could be. The villa is in bits and so is my head.

Josie: Love Island, you're making me tired. Curtis, Michael, Anna, and Maura have all been providing boatloads of drama this week and I can barely keep up.

Post-Casa Amor Recoupling:

Josie: TBH, I was kind of done with Casa Amor after last season, but this season has really surpassed the drama levels of previous years. While drama is what I’m looking for when I watch Love Island, this has left me feeling a bit cold.

Curtis, you irritated me to high heaven, but I didn’t think you were like this. Since the recoupling where he found out that him and Amy weren’t the nation’s favourite couple, he’s lost his head a bit. Casa Amor has potentially led to his downfall. I’m not sure I can speak about Michael right now. He’d seemed like such a kind and sensible figure throughout the season, so to see him turn on Amber so suddenly was strange. I was rooting for you Michael!

Special shoutout to Molly-Mae and Tommy for making me cry on my sofa. These two now take the crown as my favourite couple in the villa and I can’t wait for the Fury Family to win that sweet, sweet £50k.

Ben: This recoupling was an emotional barrage. Curtis has absolutely blown it. That Strictly Come Dancing career is slipping away right in front of him RN. I just can’t believe that he thought Jourdan was going to go for him. From what I saw, they barely said two words to each other. This man is deluded! Jourdan does deserve the Ultimate Pie Award for her “I need you as a friend” line though.

From really early on I was rooting for Amber and Michael so I feel like his recoupling with Joanna is a personal attack. The way he has describing his reasons are just so off — I think if he just straight up owned it and said that he was just more attracted to Joanna I could almost accept it but the way he was trying to turn it all on Amber was really not on.

Amber and Joanna:

Josie: Amber and Joanna’s tea date was the stuff of my nightmares TBH. Imagine being pied by a boy for another girl infront of the nation and then being forced to go out with said girl for a one-on-one date? Nah, I’d rather not. While I’m well aware that none of this is really Joanna’s fault and she is basically just collateral damage at this point, I’d need a little bit of time to process everything and to make sure that I was presenting my most rational self and to brush off my pride. Maybe I’m biased to Amber, but I felt like Joanna came in with a bit more ‘tude than I would have if I was in her position. I understand that she was hurt about the “dead ting” comment, but I probably would have let that slide. Amber shouldn’t have said it, but we’ve all said things we regret when we’re hurt and hopefully both Joanna and Amber can do some sort of joint PrettyLittleThing “dead ting” collection after the Island, so maybe it was worth it. I’m glad that they came to some sort of understanding in the end, but I hope that Joanna takes note of how Michael has treated Amber because...he’ll probs do it again, whether in or out of the villa.

Anna's Love Triangle:

Ben: I am completely conflicted when it comes to Anna’s love triangle. I was really enjoying her and Jordan's relationship blossoming but like the rest of the nation it was hard to ignore Ovie, not only because he’s 6ft 7 but because of how nonchalant he is — the man oozes cool. Anna has gone down in my estimation, she talks a lot of wanting a mature man but the way she’s been acting around the whole situation has been pretty childish. Similar to the Michael and Amber fiasco, I think if Anna would of just came out with it and said it’s nothing to do with Ovie she’s just realised her connection with Jordan was stronger it would of all been sound but the way she kept interrupting Ovie and talking about how his energy was negative was just really off, she needed to take ownership of her actions.

Josie: Golly, Anna dove head first into the drama this week by coming back to the villa with Ovie and sacking off Jordan, but then deciding that actually she did like Jordan, then she wasn’t sure, then she did, then she kind of sacked off Ovie, then she kissed Jordan, then she properly sacked off Ovie. I really liked Anna, but her habit of orchestrating arguments and interrupting people is grating on me now. Anna and Ovie’s last conversation was just a way for her to escalate the situation until she felt that she could blame their break-up on him. I can understand why he got so frustrated with her because she just would not let him speak!

Curtis' Humdinger Of A Week:

Ben: I refuse to believe that Curtis gave a shit about Amy the whole time they were together. I hated their relationship and I'm pleased it's finally come to an end even though Amy was willing to mug herself off one last time by asking him if he still wanted to give it a go. I still can’t get my head around how little emotion the lad has shown throughout this whole process — the vacant stare and stock apology is so grating and if he describes Amy as talented one more time i’m gonna flip. I can actually see him and Maura getting together purely to win the 50k. I’m hoping Maura will then reveal she never liked Curtis and steals the money for herself. Go on lass!

Josie: Curtis, Curtis, Curtis, what the hell is going on with you? Him and Amy are donzo now, which is kind of a relief because I was done with their mum and dad vibe. I do wish Amy had taken control of the situation and had sacked off Curtis, rather than it being the other way round, especially after he prioritised his coffee-making “duties” over a few cuddles, but you don’t always get what you want. I predict Amy will now remain single and will begrudgingly couple up with someone else lacklustre before making a premature exit from the villa.

I don’t want to even comment on Maura *apparently* fancying Curtis because the whole notion of it is absolutely ridiculous to me. I can’t accept that she would go for him — their vibes do not match and I can’t imagine them kissing let alone going any further.

Tommy and Lucie:

Josie: If I had the money and the resources to get one of those banner planes to do a fly-by the villa, I would get one to say “LUCIE, STOP TELLING TOMMY YOU LOVE HIM!” But I assume they make you pay-per-letter and I can’t afford to spend 31 letters worth of money on telling Lucie something that should be bloody obvious. I yawned through most of Lucie’s round-the-houses speech to Tommy but my ears did perk up when she basically said she regretted coupling with Joe — bet he was over the moon about that one. Maybe Lucie was driven to another confession of love because at the time she was coupled with George, who we only ever heard say about 3 words, or maybe she just likes to stoke fires? I don’t want to bang on about my own love of Tommy a la Lucie, but he coped with this maturely, as did Molly-Mae. This is why they are definitely the winners in my heart.

Ben: Get Lucie out! She’s had a good run but I can’t be subjected to her crying then pulling Tommy for a chat and then subsequently crying some more. Sorry but she’s terrible TV and nothing will get in the way of Tommy’s undying love for Molly-Mae. Long live the Fury family!

Maura and Lucie's Double Dumping:

Ben: It’s always so hard to go into the villa this late on and year after year it just never really works. George and Marvin (had to google to remember their names, sorry lads) were drier than Lucie's favourite salt and vinegar snack. With all the drama and repercussions of Casa Amor it was always going to be a hard week for them to get any airtime but even so, what they did show was a bit of a snoozefest. All this being said I thought the double dumping was pretty savage. The fact that Maura didn’t even really talk to Marvin and Lucie sort of just did it for her was terrible but also a bit hilarious and very on brand for Maura. I think Marvin was right to kick off but at the same time don’t mug yourself mate just let it go.

Josie: Unpopular opinion: Lucie and Maura are innovators. They both had something difficult to do and strength comes in numbers, right?
