14 Famous Actors That I Didn't Know Worked With Their Kids

Be honest, could you work with your parents?

    1. Jerry and Ben Stiller.

    Paramount Pictures

As legendary comedic actors of their respective generations, Jerry and Ben Stiller are a family force to be reckoned with. A fresh faced Ben made his film debut alongside his father in Hot Pursuit in 1987. The duo then appeared together in three more films, most notably in Zoolander, where Ben played the perennially pouting titular character, and Jerry his larger-than-life agent, Maury Ballstein.

Jerry was no stranger to working alongside family, having been in the comedy duo, Stiller and Meara, with his wife and Ben's mum, Anne Meara. Jerry sadly passed away this week, but his body of work will live on.

    2. Denzel and John David Washington.

    Warner Bros. / Focus Features

After initially forging a career as a running back playing American football, John David soon decided to follow in the footsteps of his father, the legendary actor Denzel Washington. The two once shared a screen in Spike Lee's 1992 film, Malcolm X, where Denzel played the protagonist, and his son a student.

John David then went to collaborate with Lee on the 2018 Oscar-winning film, BlacKkKlansman, where he played the lead role. Proving how close the two are, John David told the LA Times that he was with his dad when it was announced that he'd received a Golden Globe nomination for the film.

    3. Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus.

This father-daughter team starred together in Miley's breakout role in Hannah Montana from 2006 to 2011. Throughout their time on the show, they collaborated on various songs, including the tear-jerking duet "Butterfly Fly Away". I challenge you to not tear up while giving it a listen.

In January of this year, Billy Ray told Hollywood Life that he'd love to star in a rumoured prequel of the series that would explore how Miley Stewart became Hannah Montana.

    4. Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson.

    Warner Bros. Pictures

Brendan famously played Mad-Eye Moody in the Harry Potter films, while his son, Domhnall – who you might better know as General Hux in Star Wars – played Bill Weasley in the final two parts of the franchise. The father and son only had a couple of scenes together, however they worked again together on Brendan's directorial debut, Psychic, which also featured his three other sons.

    5. Martin and Charlie Sheen.

    20th Century Fox

The Sheen dynasty has practically made Hollywood their family business. Martin's four sons are all actors, but Charlie is perhaps the most well-known. The father-son duo starred together in 1987 film, Wall Street as Bud and Carl Fox. Martin must have liked working family because he cast both Charlie and his other son, Ramón, in his 1990 directorial debut, Cadence.

    6. Angelina Jolie and Jon Voight.

    Paramount Pictures

While their relationship may be a bit more complicated now, Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and her father, Jon Voight were once co-stars. They first shared the screen in Lookin' To Get Out when Jolie was only seven years old, and the most recent on the set of the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Voight played the role of Lord Richard Croft, Lara's long presumed dead father.

    7. Angelina Jolie and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.

Angelina can be seen starring alongside family once again in the 2014 Disney film, Maleficent. Angelina's daughter, Vivienne, made an appearance alongside her mother as the young Princess Aurora thanks to an at-home advantage. When auditioning other youngsters to play the part, Jolie's Maleficent get-up was too scary for other children, while five-year-old Vivienne wasn't fazed at seeing her mum all dressed up.

    8. Johnny and Lily-Rose Depp.

    Invincible Pictures

2016 film, Yoga Hosers was a daddy-daughter collaboration in a couple of ways. Not only did it see Johnny and Lily-Rose Depp star alongside each other, it was directed by Kevin Smith and starred his daughter Harley Quinn.

    9. Kirk, Michael and Cameron Douglas.

Kirk, Michael and Cameron Douglas starred in the aptly named 2003 film It Runs In The Family. Not only that, but Diana Douglas, who is Michael's mother and Kirk's ex-wife also starred. The Douglas' play a successful but dysfunctional family who are struggling to support one another – is this a case of life imitating art, perhaps?

    10. Will and Jaden Smith.

    Columbia Pictures

Is there anything cuter than a young Jaden Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness? No, there isn't. The father and son took to the silver screen together again in 2013 with the post-apocalyptic action film After Earth.

    11. Meryl Streep and Mamie Gummer.

    Sony Pictures Releasing

When you come from the loins of three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep, it really is no surprise that you were also born to be on the screen. At just twenty months old, Mamie acted alongside her mother in the 1986 film Heartburn. She's since shared the screen with Meryl two more times, in 2007's Evening where she played the younger version of her mother, and in 2015's Ricki and the Flash. She's also said to have filmed a deleted scene for The Devil Wears Prada where she took on the role of a Starbucks employee.

    12. Leslie Mann, and Maude and Iris Apatow.

    Universal Pictures

Married couple Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow are all about bringing their kids to work. The whole family have collaborated on two films – Knocked Up and This Is 40, with Judd directing and Leslie and their two daughters, Iris and Maude, starring in roles. With Judd behind the camera, Paul Rudd stepped in to be the on-screen husband and father.

    13. Alexander and Stellan Skarsgård.

    Nordisk Film

Father and son, Stellan and Alexander Skarsgård worked together on the 2011 Lars von Trier film, Melancholia. While not all family relationships would survive the trials and tribulations of this experience, when speaking to MTV about the film Alexander said that working with his dad was "awesome", and called his dad a "cool cat". Cute!

    14. Clint and Scott Eastwood

    Warner Bros. Pictures

Clint and Scott Eastwood are probably one of the most prolific family collaborators. Clint's son Scott has appeared in two films alongside his father – Gran Torino and Trouble With The Curve, and also starred in some of his dad's directorial projects, including Invictus. While some may put it down to nepotism, Scott unsuccessfully auditioned for the role of US Navy Seal Chris Kyle in American Sniper a film which was directed by his father proving that he's had to work for the roles he's got.
