The Sinister Story You Never Noticed Behind Metro Station's Debut Album

It's time to stop Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake, Shaking it

Posted on

It's been 10 years since teenagers around the world were Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake, Shaking It to the debut offering of Trace Cryus and his band Metro Station.

However, after recently delving down that emo memory lane and giving the album a spin on Spotify from an adult perspective – I've discovered the slightly sinister story behind the ten tracks. And it's creepy AF so let's look at the lyrics.

Track 01: Seventeen Forever

Literally a song about wanting to have sex with an underage girl?

'You are young and so am I.
And this is wrong, but who am I to judge
You feel like heaven when we touch
I guess for me this is enough
We're one mistake from being together
But let's not ask why it's not right
You won't be seventeen forever
And we can get away with this tonight.'

Track 02: Control

The dude now appears to cheat on his underage girlfriend cause waiting for the age of consent is such a drag...

'Another cigarette
And I'm so bored
Your words aren't making sense
I was taken
But you were waiting
One more drink
And I'm convinced
Not one more sound
Let your hair down
Take the low road
No one will know.'

Track 03: Kelsey

I think this is the young girl's name? He's desperate for a shag now

'I want you so bad
Can you feel it too?
You know I'm so, I'm so in love you
I want you for so much
I need you for so much
I need you, I need you, your touch.'

Track 04: Shake It

Roughly translates to: have sex with me or I'm not interested

'I'll take you home
If you don't leave me at the front door

(Leave me at the front door)
Your body's cold
But girl, we're gettin' so warm
And I was thinking of ways
That I could get inside
(Get inside).'

Track 05: Wish We Were Older

He's done the deed, told her to keep quiet and song ends with 'don't cry now.'

'I know you're scared
But don't leave this place
Just turn around
And let me see your face
Tonight we'll touch
And they won't know

I know you're dying
To take off your clothes
Just trust in me
I'll never run away
You kiss my lips
And you taste like pain

Whoa-e, whoa-e, oh-oh
I wish we were older
And don't cry now
And don't cry now.'

Track 06: Now That We're Done

Underage girlfriend finds out he cheated in track 02 and he blames her for trusting him...

'She's just a friend, you see
You always agree
You know I lie but you still trust me
And you believed in so much hope
But I'm the one who let you go
Now that we're done I'm so sorry
Why did I lie I'm so sorry
I know I hurt you
I know I hurt you.'

Track 07: Trust To Me

He's back with the underage girlfriend and this'd be cute if it wasn't all so predatory

'She's such a rush
She's such a crush
She's one in a million
She's such a rush
Can't get enough
She's pumping through my veins
She's too fun to be so gone with me
Too good to be true to me.'

Track 08: Tell Me What To Do

It seems he's now pressuring her into doing drugs and paying her for sex (?)

'You take another line
And you feel fine this time

And it goes like this, girl
Girl, tell me what to do
Girl, I'm so in love, whoa
I'm so in love with you, you, you
I'll just stop
Right around when things get bad
You said that
And much has passed
Come on now, this'll be real fast
Darling, I know you need the cash

Yeah, move like that
Yeah, yeah, yeah, move like that.'

Track 09: California

Basically let's run away cause everyone thinks I'm a big pedo

'We don't need a map
And you can throw your phone away
We don't wanna hear
The things you know they're gonna say

You don't trust yourself
But girl trust me
Don't look in the mirror
The past you don't wanna see.'

Track 10: Disco

Um, underage girlfriend has escaped her predator boyfriend and is now suicidal?

'I can't take this
No, I don't like it
I don't know where you are

You know she's dancing at the disco
And whoa, she's dying on the dance floor
I know you're sleeping all alone
You feel suicidal

Now you're dying to get out
But do ?
Do you feel it in your veins
The poison rushing through?
But can't you see it in your heart
I'm still there for you?'

The end.

And then it was put out by a major label, sold 400,000 in US, had a platinum single and I never even realised.
