12 Things You Didn’t Know About Composer Alec Puro

Having had success as a founding member of the heavy metal band Deadsy, which brought him on tour with artists such as Linkin Park and Korn, to scoring highly acclaimed tv shows such as Freeform’s "The Fosters" and MTV’s "Sweet/Vicious," Alec Puro has experienced many different aspects of the music business, all which have helped shape him into the accomplished composer he is today. With his latest film, "All Nighter" starring Academy Award winning actor J.K. Simmons being released March 17 we decided to learn a little more about Alec.

His scoring career started in the midst of touring…one of his first opportunities was writing additional music cues for the Michael Mann show, Robbery Homicide Division from the tour bus while his band opened up the Family Values Tour in 2001 with Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park and Staind.

In his early 20’s he toured with Robbie Krueger from The Doors and recorded with artists such as Cher, Jackson Browne and Robert Downey Jr. to name a few

…Jackson Browne gave Alec his first guitar and amp, a Fender telecaster and Vox AC10!

Alec appeared in the 2003 film, The Singing Detective starring Robert Downey Jr. and Mel Gibson as Dan Dark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) Drummer who gets shot in the neck while playing a gig.

In 2011 Alec had two feature films he scored in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah, Higher Ground, the critically acclaimed directorial debut from Academy Award Nominee Vera Farmiga and The Art of Getting By starring Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts. On the last day of the festival Alec managed to break his leg in half snowboarding and didn’t walk for about eight months!

Alec currently scores the critically acclaimed 1hr drama, Sweet/Vicious for MTV…Variety called it one of the 20 best new shows of 2016 and the Hollywood Reporter raves it’s the best new show you’ve never heard of.

The film All Nighter in theaters March 17th directed by Gavin Wiesen was the second composer/director collaboration for Alec and Gavin…the first film they worked on together was the 2011 Fox Searchlight film The Art Of Getting By starring Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore.
