ALBURTIS, Pa. — A teenager elected to a Pennsylvania borough council seat took office a few hours after pleading guilty to stalking and escape charges.

Nineteen-year-old Kyle Bower was sworn in Wednesday night as the newest member of the Alburtis Borough Council.

Earlier in the day Bower was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a pair of misdemeanors for throwing a brick through his ex-girlfriend’s window and slipping out of handcuffs during an alcohol-related arrest.

At his court appearance Bower told Lehigh County Judge Robert Steinberg he’s a changed man since he stopped drinking. He says he’s pursuing his General Educational Development diploma after dropping out of high school.

Bower still faces case on charges including resisting arrest, escape and public drunkenness in neighboring Berks County.
