How To Be Successful At K-State

Written and compiled by the 2013-2014 Kansas State University SGA Interns. Follow K-State SGA on Twitter: @kstateSGA

Go To The Varsity Food Truck

With staple items such as the Mac N Cheese Grilled Cheese, Corn Dog, and the option to put bacon on any menu item, The Varsity Food Truck embodies everything that is right in the world. Grab a few friends and prepare yourselves to fall in love at first bite, and even catch an episode of Phineas and Ferb on the projection screen while you're there. Now wipe the drool off of your keyboard and let's move on.

Use Your Free Printing At Hale

It's true- the best things in life are free. You get $10 free printing at Hale each semester. So, if free paper and ink are your jam, you're in the right place! But use it all up because it doesn't carry over to the next semester.

    Studying, Ever Studying

Just because you don't have any homework due soon doesn't mean you can't study and work ahead. You may have been able to procrastinate in high school, but that's not the case in college. Don't learn this the hard way - be proactive about your education!

    Make Personal Connections With Instructors

It pays to be personal. Professors hold a wealth of knowledge and connections that could be very beneficial in the future. Furthermore, professors will oftentimes curve grades of the students who have made a special impression on them. Introduce yourself at the beginning of the semester and utilize office hours for your benefit.

Use The Shopping Cart In ISIS

Similar to the release of a new Apple product, courses get snatched up quickly after becoming available for enrollment. Put all of your desired courses into the shopping cart so you are ready when your enrollment time comes. Also, have a few backup classes on standby- just in case you can't get into your first options.

Keep a Calendar (And Use It!)

Studies suggest that 0% of college students enjoy forgetting about an exam. The syllabus given out on the first day of class will have all test and project due dates listed. Put all of these dates into your calendar and you won't have to worry about missing anything important.

    Study Outside Of Your Room

Your dorm room is a great place to watch entire seasons of Breaking Bad on Netflix, but you will quickly find that motivating yourself to do homework in the same place that you sleep is a difficult endeavor. Find a place on campus to study that will keep you focused and on-task.

Get Your Paws On Cat Cash

Cat Cash is just like normal currency except for the fact that it is 100% more amazing because it is affiliated with K-State. Be nice to your parents and have them load you up with some at the beginning of the semester to do laundry in the residence halls and for the inevitable late night Quik Cats or coffee run.

    See The Sights Of Manhattan

Scholars maintain that Manhattan, KS is the Paris of the western hemisphere. With sights such as Manhattan Hill, KS Hill, Top Of The World, and Pillsbury Crossing, there's no shortage of places to visit. Pack a lunch and make an afternoon out of it!

Find Your Passion - Get Involved

Did you know K-State has a Baking Club? K-State is a great place to explore new and exciting interests. Take advantage of the all-activities fair that is put on at the beginning of each semester and talk with representatives from each student organization.
