Labour Has Found A New Way Of Spamming Everyone On Twitter

The parties are warming up for the 2015 general election. Twitter is about to be flooded with politics.

Last week more than 800 people agreed to let Labour control their Twitter account – for this one-off tweet.

It's an attempt to recreate blanket broadcast-style coverage on Twitter. And if 4.5m people really did see this one tweet about energy bills then it would be an equivalent reach to the BBC's Six O'Clock News.

Both approaches risk annoying people.

8 tweets in a row on my feed from Labour people using identical wording about freezing energy bills. Must be dalek day.

Just received 8 identical tweets in a row from Labour supporters calling on Cameron to freeze power bills. I get the message, comrades. . .

Either way, there's going to be a lot more of this in the run-up to the next election.
