Fall has arrived, and with it many new adventures. Vacations are over, the working world is hunkering in for the long haul, students are off to school or studying abroad, and that means a whole new wave of updates to share with friends and family. Which really means, knowing when and where to check to keep up with the happenings of the world.
We all have our favorites ways to share and keep people in the know. What would happen without Twitter and the ability to talk into the void? Or Instagram to show all the places we've been or how good our food looks? And we can't neglect our Facebook updates to make sure our aunts and uncles out in Kentucky see just how beautiful that wedding we attended last weekend was, or how much different cousin Susie's baby looks in only one month.
Of course, with all of the options out there, it's super easy to get tied up into the jumbled mess that is social media. What better to fix the mess of tech than tech itself? The way I see it, we have two possible solutions: management platforms or (more simply) an all inclusive app.
We've heard of the Hootsuite's and Buffer's, that let us monitor every social media account we want all in one place. To be expected, there are professional uses for these tools that cost just a bit more, but the 'freemium' levels provide the average user just what they keep to keep up. One of my personal favs, is Snowball (Android exclusive - sorry iPhone users!). Instead of organizing all social media apps, Snowball specializes in messenger apps; Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, SMS, Hangouts, Twitter, Line, WeChat, and Slack with Telegram, Viber, and Skype. For those who are traveling and living the Wi-Fi life, these messenger apps are the primary point of communication with family (unless they happen to have the extra dough to shell out for a roaming plan).
For the minimalists out there, the magnitude of apps available may be just a bit overwhelming. In which case, a master app may just be the sexy lady in red at a party. One example of such an app, is ringID. Instead of surfing through various apps for different purposes, ringID provides the all inclusive ability for chat, ephemeral messages, sharing pictures, free calling, HD video chat, music streaming, and more. The most enchanting feature, in my honest opinion, is the 'message retrieval'. I've hit send one too many times wishing I could hit an undo button, and with ringID, I can!
Whether you are in London, studying abroad, or sitting at your work desk with your office pup on your lap, treat yourself with a little social media simplification…. And an Instagrammable latte from your local hole-in-the-wall coffee shop.
