CSI & SSI: Camper, Parents, and Staff Satisfaction Insights

Returning counselors are the “cornerstones” of their camp. Over the last 17 years, 4,200+ Fellows have participated in this transformative leadership experience.

Being a part of the Cornerstone Fellowship includes attending a 5-day seminar in the spring, and bringing new ideas, programs and initiatives back to camp. At the Cornerstone Seminar, 400 staff members from Jewish camps across North America come together for workshops, song sessions, and campfires, learning from seasoned faculty and from each other. Fellows share “magic” and ideas among their camps, creating a new type of camp community.

The Building Loan Program’s interest free loans provide camps with access to cash to cover short-term capital expenses, typically while fundraising pledges are being paid out over multiple years.  Loans enable shorter turnaround time to start capital improvements at camp.

The Competitive Edge is designed to provide expertise and financial support to  camps to plan and implement new specialty tracks in their traditional Jewish overnight summer camps.

The Betzalel Initiative, formerly the Educator Match Program (formerly the Innovation Fund for Jewish Impact at Camp). Our research and decades of direct experience have shown that overnight camps benefit from Jewish educational and engagement resources as significant components for deepening Jewish culture and strengthening camper and staff retention.

The Betzalel Initiative

This initiative provides day and overnight camps with essential support to better serve children with disabilities through funding for capital improvements to increase accessibility, and training for staff. It also provides funding for professional development, staff training, research, and evaluation. We hope this support will significantly increase the number of campers and staff with disabilities who are able to participate in Jewish camp.

This initiative aims to provide overnight and day camps with financial and programmatic support for camps to address MESH in holistic ways – supporting camps’ hiring qualified mental health professionals on their staff, enhancing counselor training, integrating wellness programming into activity areas, and develop other ways to create cultural change within their camp communities year-round.

Yedid Nefesh

Working at Jewish day camps across North America, FJC, in partnership with the Jewish National Fund—Alexander Muss High School in Israel, has inaugurated a program to teach rising high school juniors through rising college sophomores an overview of the geopolitical history of contemporary Israel.
