Haute Couture: French meaning “high sewing” or “high dressmaking”. A Haute Couture garment is one that is entirely made by hand with the most luxurious fabrics, construction details, and embellishments such as beading and lace. To achieve Haute Couture multiple fittings are required. It is a very time consuming process that is handled by highly skilled workers.
In France only companies that meet the strict requirement set by La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (which is the French fashion
governing body) are allowed to use the term Haute Couture.
