11 Low-Carb, Gluten-Free Snacks That Are Actually Delicious

Whether you have diabetes, a gluten intolerance, or you just feel like eating fewer carbs, these snacks are here for you (and they're all endorsed by a bona fide Person With Diabetes).

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

Hi, I have type 1 diabetes (just like Mary Tyler Moore and Nick Jonas!) and I LOVE TO SNACK!

Here are the best low-carb snacks I've encountered in my 15 years as a T1.

    And, bonus: They're all 100% gluten-free!

    1. All-natural turkey or beef sticks, a delicious, hormone- and antibiotic-free alternative to the gas station classic.

I discovered these meat sticks (sorry) when I lived in Nick's home state of Iowa, and when I returned to the grayer pasture of New York, I assumed they were lost to me forever. Guys, I forgot about Amazon. They're on Amazon! I have tried these all-natural, hormone- and antibiotic-free, ZERO-CARB sticks in both the beef and turkey varieties, and can confirm that they are pretty much the perfect diabetic snack.

Net carbs (note: net carbs = total carbs minus total fiber): ZERO

    Gluten-free?: Yes!

Get them from Amazon: six packages of two turkey sticks for $16.74 or six packages of two beef sticks for $17.99.

    2. Cheese crisps to scratch your chip itch, nearly carblessly.

If you have a salt tooth, these are a great substitute for carb-loaded chips. Fair warning: They are quite salty — but to me, they are perfect. They also make a delicious crouton sub in salads! And yeah, they — like many of the items on this list — are on the pricer side for snack foods. But what can I say, they're cheaper than manufactured insulin!

    3. Pickle-flavored cashews, because there aren't enough low-carb snacks covered in flavor powder, and I cannot dill with it.

Nuts are a diabetic dream snack, but too often they are offensively flavorless (I'm looking at you, unsalted nuts at the BuzzFeed office). You can usually find a sweet-flavored nut, like a honey-roasted peanut, but like, avoiding sugar is the whole point of this exercise (and by "this exercise" I mean "following my doctor's instructions"). That's why I was so delighted to find these dill pickle-flavored cashews. They're salty and a little sour and highly snackable.

    Net carbs: 9g/serving

Get a 5 oz. bag from Amazon for $4.80+ (available in four flavors).

    4. Peanut butter packs that make a great snack, both as a solo artist or as part of an iconic duo.

I could tell you I've never squeezed one of these Justin's peanut butter packs into my mouth in front of other humans, but I haven't lied yet today and I'm not going to start now. They're also so thin you strategically stash them in all your pockets and bags so you can head off hanger at the pass, no matter what.

    Net carbs: 5g/serving

    Get a 10-pack from Amazon for $7.20.

    5. String cheese, a zero-carb snack that will take you right back to childhood.

String cheese (along with orange slices) is a classic post-soccer-game snack, and it totally holds up in adulthood. It's portable (it might get a little squishy in your bag but hey, some people are into that), delicious, and fun to eat. Climb aboard the string cheese train! You won't be sorry!

    Net carbs: <1g/serving

Get a 36-pack from Amazon Fresh for $8.99.

    6. Packages of olives so you can enjoy olives wherever you are (even if you don't feel like carrying a full jar in your bag).

Olives are an underrated low-carb snack for the simple reason that they are unwieldy to tote around. Well, look who's swooped in to save the day: these totally tote-able packages of olives. These are also pitted, so they're doubly convenient. They make me feel like I'm hosting my own little cocktail party at my desk. Minus the alcohol, and plus work. I swear it's more fun than it sounds!

    Net carbs: <1g/serving

Get a variety pack of 12 bags from Amazon for $14.48.

    7. Fancy popcorn that tastes every bit as good as it looks.

This popcorn's packaging is practically begging you to Instagram it, but once you take the snack selfie, you'll be delighted find that this stuff is also delicious. I'm going to be honest: I don't know what "whole grain energy" means, but when it tastes as good as this, I'm not mad at it.

    Net carbs: 9g/serving

Get a pack of 24 bags from Jet for $15.59.

    8. Hard-boiled eggs, or: a little prep goes a long way.

Unlike the other snacks on this list, hard-boiled eggs require a bit of prep on your part. But not much! I like to prepare six or so at once and keep them in the fridge for protein-packed snacking. Check out these hacks for making perfect hard-boiled eggs, or invest in an electric egg-cooker.

    Net carbs: <1g/eggs

    9. Crispy coconut chips, a savory/sweet treat for when you want something a little dessert-ish (without the blood sugar spike).

BuzzFeed HQ is blessed with these dreamy snacks, and as a diabetic with a major sweet tooth, I hope they never go away. They're delicious on their own as well as to jazz up yogurt (because as all diabetics know, granola is basically a candy wolf in "healthy" sheep's clothing).

    Net carbs: 11g/serving

Get a pack of 12 bags from Amazon for $28.48.

    10. Chili-lime pistachios for a snack with a deliciously spicy kick, aka the splurge-worthiest nut I have even encountered.

These are a ~gourmet~ nut, but they are just so tasty that I can't stop buying them. I got my first bag as a gift (h/t to my old roommate, who knows me well), and have been reordering ever since. They're salty, spicy, a little sour, and incredibly satisfying.

    Net carbs: 5g/serving

Get a 3-pound bag from Amazon for $32.

    11. Larabar Crunchy Nut and Seed Bars, because sometimes you want to eat a dang granola bar.

Ugh, granola bars! They pretend to be super healthful, but they're packed with sugar. But they're such an easy snack! These are the quandaries that define my life. Or did define my life, before I discovered these delicious, crunchy, convenient nut-and-seed bars. They are divine, and they are the lowest-carb, best-tasting granola bars I have found in my many years of searching.

    Net carbs: 10g/bar

Get a box of 15 from Amazon for $18.71+ (available in four flavors).

Never let carb restrictions or gluten intolerance get in the way of ~snacking~.
