    I Tried The TikTok-Famous Revlon One-Step Volumiser, And Here's My Thoughts

    💁‍♀️ If you're anything like me and regularly lose hours of your life to TikTok, then you'll no doubt have seen the famous Revlon one-step volumiser. It's been hailed as a dupe for a rather bougie hair tool, and it went straight on my wishlist. 💁‍♀️

    I won't lie, although I love beauty, I'm definitely no pro when it comes to styling my hair. Usually, I'll stick to my large-barrelled curling wand to create loose waves, or for an easy style on the daily, I'll grab my GHD's. 

    The bane of my life however, is blow-drying. You see, I'll let you into a little secret – I have hair extensions to add thickness and volume to my locks, and drying them takes ages! My natural hair type is straight and occasionally slightly frizzy at the top in certain weather conditions, FYI.

    ✨ If you've never seen the one-step volumiser in action, it's essentially a brush that sounds and functions like a hairdryer, meaning you can basically brush your hair straight and dry with a lil' volume or into a bouncy blow-dry style 'do. ✨

    Before I used the volumiser for the first time, I went down a TikTok hole, watching numerous 'first impression' and 'how to' videos to make sure I got the most out of my new gadget.

    Before you start, you ideally want your hair to be semi-wet. I would rough dry mine with a towel and leave it to air-dry slightly, but if your hair tends to hold a lot of water, then you'll probably want to blow-dry it first.

    Then, as with most styling tools, the easiest way to use it is to section your hair. At this point, I should be honest and say if I'm short on time or feeling super lazy then I have been known to just try and do as much of my hair as poss at the same time with a styling tool but the results (particularly at the back) are never as good.

    💻 A lot of the tutorials I watched on TikTok said you should move the hair gently in an upwards motion near the root, glide down the hair, and then kind of flick the ends to get the best results 💻

    💇🏻‍♀️ Here is my unfiltered (and needs a trim!) hair when it's just been rough dried with a regular hairdryer without styling. 💇🏻‍♀️

    My hair extensions can tend to hold a fair amount of water, and I do have to be gentle when styling to make sure I don't pull them out so I left my hair to air-dry for a little while first.

    Before using the volumiser, I spritzed my hair with heat protection spray (I used this Schwarzkopf one FYI) and then set about drying my locks. All in all, it probably took about 20 minutes to finish it off using the brush, which is quicker than my usual blow-drying routine. I did find manoeuvring the brush a lil tricky at times, especially on sections nearer the back, but it isn't any different than using any other styling tool in that respect.


    🤭 I did have a little *ahem* accident when I pulled out one of my extensions, but that can happen if i'm a little over-zealous with the hair straighteners and I'm in need of a refit. 🤭

    Here's my results pre-serum and hairspray – in need of a little smoothing on the top, but overall definitely more volume and more professional looking ends. I will say that I didn't find it super easy to get volume at the root, which has always been an issue for me so that's something I'd definitely try to master next time around.

    Once I'd finished, I sprayed my hair with this go-to extra-strong hold hairspray to help my style last and smoothed flyaways with a little of this cheap-as-chips serum.

    I should mention at this point that my hair doesn't tend to keep styles in place that well, so I was surprised that the look lasted, though the volume did drop throughout the day.

    ❓Final thoughts ❓

    I won't lie, I definitely think this is one of those times when practice makes perfect. As far as creating a salon-worthy look from home, I actually think it's the easiest tool I've tried, and I am in no-way a styling pro.

    I definitely think saving your fave TikTok tutorials in advance is a must-do, because it's easy to end up just using it to dry your hair instead of a hairdryer if you don't take advantage of the little hacks! The finished result was kinda giving me Rachel from FRIENDS hair vibes and I'm here for it.

    For £39.99 I think the Revlon one-step volumiser is a pretty good lazy styling tool that gives maximum results with minimum effort. If you're anything like me, and loathe blow-drying your hair in the summer (hi sweaty neck!) then I think it'd be worth nabbing even if only to style and dry your hair in one go!
