To try and fill the likely very long wait for more Stranger Things, I recently asked my fellow fans in the BuzzFeed Community to share their predictions and theories for Season 5.
From time jumps to (more) characters returning from the dead, here's what fans think will happen in the final season of Stranger Things:
1. "I think they're going to do a time jump to 1989. It would really bring things full-circle for the show to end right on the cusp of the '90s."
2. "The final season will probably take place sometime in 1990. Culturally speaking, it still felt somewhat like the '80s that year, so this could be a good opportunity to showcase some more '80s and even some early '90s music. This would also be a good opportunity to show off the fashion trends that were starting to form during the '90s.
"Also, Vecna will probably need a lot of time to recover from the blows he and his army received at the end of Season 4, so maybe about four years before he nurses himself back to health."
3. "Eddie becoming Kas, Vecna’s right-hand man in his DnD campaign, is probably the most believable to me.
"Kas died via bat bites, like Eddie, but was resurrected as a half-vampire to eventually defeat Vecna himself. He also wielded a sword and shield, like Eddie, and they thought Vecna was defeated until Will said that he still felt him JUST LIKE IN THE CAMPAIGN. The Duffers don’t add details like that for no reason. Plus, I’m just holding out hope that Eddie comes back somehow. I refuse to believe that they just left him in the Upside Down, but who knows."
4. "I totally agree with the theories about Eddie returning, but I also think Vecna's victims will somehow come back in some capacity, and that Eddie and Chrissy will get more scenes together since the Duffer brothers have said they wish they'd realized how good Joseph Quinn and Grace Van Dien's chemistry was before they killed her off!"
5. "Eleven will definitely have to sacrifice herself to destroy the Upside Down forever."
"If Eleven dies, then Mike might as well die, too. He'd be way beyond heartbroken to go on without El. 💔😥"
6. "I read a theory that Vecna is actually Eleven's biological father, and I can't get it out of my head."
7. "I think that Max is going to be used as some sort of go-between for Vecna and Eleven, either for communication or even used as a puppet for battle."
8. "Max follows in Billy’s footsteps and becomes a Mind Flayer/Vecna puppet. Lucas has to kill her before she kills his sister."
9. "I think that Max is trapped somewhere in Vecna's mind, (that's why Eleven couldn't find her) where the souls of all the other victims are (Chrissy, Fred, Patrick, the Creels, and all the lab children).
"They said that when Vecna kills, he takes their soul, their abilities, everything they ever were. As Max has a body to go back to, she could get back. I think Max will have a way of connecting with the other souls, maybe having a way of accessing their abilities, so has the telekinetic abilities that the lab children had maybe? So she infiltrates Vecna from the inside, and the others from the outside. Then when they defeat Vecna, Max will wake up, with powers!"
10. "Flashbacks to Season 1 revealing that Vecna actually took Will and the reason he sang 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' while in the Upside Down was to prevent Vecna from infiltrating his mind, meaning that Will is the key to taking down Vecna once and for all."
11. "Will is going to be compromised by Vecna and/or the Mind Flayer somehow, maybe how he was in Season 2. They've had the character on the sidelines for too long, and Noah Schnapp is too good an actor to not play a huge role in the final season."
12. "I could see those lost to the Upside Down (Barb, Chrissy, Billy, etc.) coming back in some sort of spirit form to help defeat the monsters in the final battle."
13. "I think they'll introduce a new character that we'll love, and because of Barb, Bob, Alexei, and Eddie, we're going to assume this character will also die. But then, they throw us for a loop and kill Dustin or Steve instead."
14. "Not my own theory, but I thought it was interesting — Karen Wheeler is somehow connected to the Creels, which will lead to her having a larger role next season."
15. "Murray gon' die. Once they no longer have a need for anyone to speak or translate Russian *slides finger across throat* Grrckt!"
16. "I don’t think Papa is actually dead. We saw him lying on the ground taking his final breaths, but the military was also right there outside with him."

17. "I've seen people say Kali/Eight won't return because her episode was so poorly received, but I think she might turn up in Hawkins to help Eleven. It just feels like such a loose end!"
