Born in the USSR, British DJ, model and pop star Viktoria Modesta is taking the world by storm as the first ever bionic pop star.
At the age of 20, Viktoria Modesta underwent a voluntary below-the-knee amputation after years of related health complications threatened her life.
Not allowing this to get in the way of her art, Viktoria Modesta incorporated her amputation into her performances.
And now, in collaboration with Video Director Saam Farahmand, The Alternative Limb Project and as part of Channel 4's #BornRisky campaign...
Viktoria Modesta has released her new music video for single 'Prototype', and it is on point!
"For a long time, pop culture closed its doors on me as an amputee and alternative artist," said Modesta.
"I have never felt comfortable thinking of myself as disabled and this has inspired me to actively challenge old-fashion views."
At the London 2012 Paralympics Closing Ceremony, Viktoria Modesta performed alongside Coldplay.
"People have always found it hard to know what to think or feel about an amputee who wasn't trying to be an Olympian."
"In sports, 'overcoming' a disability makes you a hero, but in pop there is no place for these feelings."
"The industry isn't as brave as it could be. There's a lot of talent out there but someone needs to take risks."
"Disability shouldn't be a shock or a rarity. It should be just as acceptable to see a disabled person on TV as other minority groups of race, sexual orientation etc."
"The time for boring ethical discussions around disability is over."
