Women Are Sharing The Overhyped Products They Purchased That Turned Out To Be A Waste Of Money

The hype was *not* real for these things.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you probably don't need to buy that thing that's all over your Instagram feed.

As an impulse shopper myself, I know how tempting it can be to buy something that EVERYONE is talking about. But 9 times out of 10, those products are completely overhyped and just not worth your money.

Luckily, the people of Reddit have spoken, and have made it way easier to decide what's not worth buying. In a thread created by u/killerbee333, people shared the beauty products, kitchen items, and other things that unfortunately turned out to be "a waste of money."

Here are 15 of the most popular answers:

    1. Female-geared razors

"Any pink-colored shaving products, especially any female-geared razors. Fuck them and fuck them hard — they're all crappy. A few years ago, I got fed up and used my husband's Gillette razor one day. Surprise surprise! The damn thing actually worked. Fuck the pink tax." —warda8825

    2. Luxury skincare brands

"Acne treatments and expensive skincare. In the end, prescription tretinoin, drugstore cleanser, and moisturizer cured my acne and gave me the best skin ever." —equanimit_y

    3. High-end hair stylers

"I like doing my hair, and mistakenly bought a high-end hair styler. It takes forever (even after practicing for a year), it makes me hot and sweaty, the curls fall out, and I’ve tried every method to make them stay. The other attachments are not that great. I like the hair dryer though. I’m thinking of trying to sell it on Facebook or something because it irks me on a regular basis that I actually spent $600+ on that thing." —GreenMountain85

    4. Brand-name mascaras

"I bought a 'high-end' mascara, and it was horrible. It always made me look like a raccoon afterward. It would flake off. I thought I was applying it wrong or something. But I've read other people had the same issues. Buying a simple drugstore one like Maybelline is so much better and cheaper." —miss_tee14

    5. Instagram-viral pans

"I didn't purchase this, but received it as a gift because of the hype and wanted to share as a PSA. What an utter waste of money this pan was. Wish I could return it and spend that money on a Le Creuset or equivalent instead. The pan does look as cute as advertised, but it's downright terrible at maintaining its nonstick properties." —uh_huhh_her

    6. DIY colorful hair dye

"I don’t understand why everyone raves about them; it doesn’t absorb into my hair and fades so fast. Now when people recommend them, I assume that’s the only brand they’ve tried because it SUCKS for me." —TeishAH

    11. Some celeb makeup brands

"I own lipstick from a celebrity brand because it came free from Ulta. When I was buying some other products, I was like, 'Why not, it's free and I've never tried it?' It's the driest lipstick I've ever tried, and what sucks is it's a really nice color that I normally would love, but it almost immediately cracks as soon as I put it on. If I want to actually wear it I have to put a gloss on, which I don't always want to do. I haven't tried any of another celeb's products because I had such a bad time with that one." —Mangobunny98

    13. Gummy vitamins

"The gummy vitamins/the vitamin industry in general. Eat a relatively healthy diet, and unless the doctor says you have a specific deficiency, you don't need the gummies (despite their tastiness)." —eggintryingtimes42

"These are a good idea in theory (a self-operating vacuum) but, a) the damn thing always gets stuck somewhere, and I have to constantly free it from under the couch or some other random place; b) it doesn’t 'learn' the layout of my house, as advertised, so it bumps into furniture and baseboards constantly and scuffs things; c) it can’t go over most area rugs without sucking up the corners or edges and getting it stuck; d) it’s inefficient and doesn’t cover every spot; e) the bin is too small, so you have to constantly stop and empty it before it can finish the job; and f) it’s not powerful enough to handle anything more than light surface dirt, and especially not the insane amount of dog and cat hair in my house. Save your money." —greentofu402

    15. And finally, not necessarily a product but a very popular item: pumpkin spice lattes
