Actually, it happened on this trip to New York. I landed at JFK airport, and all I did was post something saying I was going to New York, and, when I got to JFK, there were four people waiting for me...just from my Instagram story.

It's the nerdy face emoji with glasses 🤓! I think it's just because sometimes I'm awkward, and that's a cute little way of saying, "Oh, I'm weird."
4. Biggest pet peeve?
I really don't like it when I open doors for somebody and they hold out their hand, like I'm going to slam it as they walk through it.

I looked up a quote from Siberia, the movie with Keanu Reeves, before I got here. I just tweeted it as well — it's, "Patience is like air in a sealed room, no matter how much you start with, eventually you will run out." The villain in Siberia says it.

7. Go-to comfort food?
Taco Bell. I get a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, two soft tacos, and cheese quesadillas.
8. What's your current iPhone background?
It's a play sign, like on YouTube when it's a black screen and you have to press play. People don't notice it. I actually did it after I got out of a relationship because I kept looking at my phone background and thinking about the girl, or thinking about how I wasn't with her and I just changed it to something that I wouldn't notice. And I don't. I don't even think about the back of my phone now, so it's done its job.
9. What's a vacation that's on your bucket list?
Cuba!

10. Speaking of Cuba, you starred in Camila Cabello's "Havana" music video! Can you talk about how that happened?
That was incredible. I got a phone call from my manager when I was on set of The Fosters, and he says, "Hey man, so we have an opportunity for you to work on a music video. I'm not sure you're going to want to do it." And I say, "Well, who's the artist?" and he says, "Camila Cabello." And I say, "WHAT?! Oh my god! What's the song?" and he goes, "'Havana.'" And I'm like, "Dude, you don't even understand. My sister just showed me this song a week ago. Yes, yes, yes, a million times! I'm in."
11. So, what was it like working with Camila?
She is the kindest, sweetest, most energetic, tiniest little person that I've ever met. And we had an amazing time. We danced and we laughed and we talked and got to know each other. It was a lovely experience.

12. How did she choose you for the project?
I don't know. I honestly don't know. I asked her that. I said, "Why did you pick me for this?" And she said, "I don't know. They showed me a few pictures of options, and you just seemed like the right one." It was incredible. Serendipity.
13. What's your song of summer?
"This Is America" by Childish Gambino. That guy is a genius. That or "Icon" by Jaden Smith.
14. Are there any roles that people would be surprised to learn you auditioned for?
"I auditioned for the leading role in The Kissing Booth."
I auditioned for the leading role in The Kissing Booth that came out on Netflix, funny enough. I've auditioned for practically everything that's come out — a lot of actors have.
15. You're in not one, but two, huge Netflix movies coming out soon: To All the Boys I've Loved Before (August 17) and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (September 7). How did that happen?
What's interesting is that they were sold to Netflix after we had filmed them. So they weren't Netflix to begin with — Netflix later acquired them. It's an incredible home, and I'm just fortunate to be able to be there because, when they release something, it goes global. There's no waiting for it. Everyone can see it. They have over 125 million memberships that go to 190+ countries in an instant, and that's an incredible advantage. I'm very fortunate to be a part of the team.
16. What's your favorite memory from working on To All the Boys I've Loved Before?
Lana [Condor] is a treasure, and the fact that I got to work with her is a gift — her and Israel [Broussard]. I've known Israel for six years. So to be able to work with both of them was such a gift. We would just spend countless nights in the hot tub talking and getting to know each other, and that was what was so great, developing a natural chemistry with both of them and a friendship with both of them late at night after we would film.
17. The whole premise of the movie is about secret crushes becoming not-so-secret. Has anything like that ever happened to you?
No, not like in the film. I think I've always been pretty honest about who I've had crushes on or I haven't told them until the right time and then I tell the person, "Hey, I've liked you for years."
18. The book has two sequels — would you want to be in them if they were produced?
"My favorite part of my career is being able to meet people and connect with them."
Absolutely. If there's a way that we can make that happen, let's do it.
19. Okay, now share a favorite memory from filming Sierra Burgess.
Honestly, it's the same as To All the Boys I've Loved Before, the time spent with Shannon and RJ and Kristine. Just getting to know them and who they are and deep diving into them. In this entire industry, my favorite part of my career is being able to meet people and connect with them.
20. You play a jock in both movies. Is that true to your high school experience?
I played junior varsity soccer in high school, that's the extent of my athleticism in high school — so kind of. But I was never the star.
21. How does it feel to keep getting cast as the "teen YA heartthrob"?
"I'm a hopeless romantic on some days and a hopeful one on others."
I love it. I'm a hopeless romantic on some days and a hopeful one on others, so this is my dream.
22. What's the most romantic thing you've ever done?
I would say one of the most romantic things I've done is I've taken a girlfriend back to her hometown when she hadn't been back for years. It was in Puerto Rico, and we stayed there for about a week and a half. She showed me the different places she grew up around.
23. And the most romantic thing that's ever happened to you?
I was put on a scavenger hunt on Valentine's Day of the place we first met, the place we fell in love, the place this happened, the place that happened — it took four hours. It was the most romantic and incredible gift ever.
24. What is your favorite Netflix movie other than the ones you're in?
I like Bright. Some people didn't like Bright — I loved it. I love that film for how blatantly obvious the analogies are.
25. Best classic rom-com?
13 Going on 30. I watched it on the plane ride over here.
26. What's the best advice anyone has ever given you?
"Cheer up, you're worse than you think." If I ever feel like I'm messing up, making the worst decisions, or I'm just lesser than — if I'm being self-deprecating — I just think, "Cheer up, dude, you're a lot worse than you think." It makes me laugh. It takes me out of it. The second best is, "Breathe."

27. Finally, how do you feel about these two huge movies coming out this summer?
I'm just excited for people to see them. They just have such a message of, "Do not let society define beauty. Do not let society define what you hold important in your heart." And To All the Boys I've Loved Before with not being afraid to love: Don't be afraid to love in the first place, don't be afraid to love again. I personally believe that if you love someone and you get your heart broken and you can learn to love someone else just as deeply as the first, then that is the greatest lesson we can learn on this planet. So for people to receive these messages, I feel an honor to be a part of these projects.
