22 Struggles That Are Way Too Real For Jane Austen Heroines

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a Jane Austen heroine must be in want of a husband.

    1. Your mother will never let you forget how single you are.

    2. And is constantly trying to set you up with eligible bachelors.

    3. The older you get, the more judgment you receive for being single.

    4. But meeting a guy is hard, and you sometimes have to resort to drastic measures.

    5. Or just stick closer to home.

    6. You have a habit of getting involved with guys who are all wrong for you, at least at first.

    7. You want to marry for love… so you have to make sure to fall in love with a rich guy.

    8. Because while your family wants to see you wedded, they certainly don’t want it to be to someone who earns less than £5,000 a year.

    9. (You live in a time where £5,000 a year is a LOT of money.)

    10. Because society is patriarchal AF and you can’t even own your own damn house.

    11. Or, like, get a job?

    12. Not that you would want one. You’re not a servant after all.

    13. And you’re super busy anyway because you have to be so ~accomplished~.

    14. And spend so much time socialising...

    15. Even if you hate most of the people you know.

    16. And all you really want to do is stay in your room and read.

    17. You do love balls, but they’re few and far between.

    18. And you don’t always get much choice about your dance partners.

    19. Also showers don’t exist so like, everyone gets kinda smelly.

    20. And can we talk about how this hairstyle is flattering on literally nobody?

    21. When you do finally find a (rich) guy you like, you don’t get any privacy.

    22. And you have to get engaged before you can even really date.

But at least you always get your happily ever after.
