The Trailer For Next Week's "Game Of Thrones" Foreshadows One Big Death

We're in the endgame now.

Well guys, for better or worse, we made it. There's one episode left of Game of Thrones. Here's the trailer, which admittedly does not reveal much:

We get shots of a horrified Jon, Davos, and Tyrion examining the rubble of King's Landing...

Including the destroyed Red Keep.

HBO

Arya looks on in anger at Dany's still massive army.

HBO

While Tyrion looks utterly defeated.

HBO

Daenerys observes her army (which, again, is somehow still massive???). The shot cements her as queen of the ashes.

HBO

She became exactly what she didn't want to become.

HBO

But what does this all MEAN? Well, Daenerys has to die for sure. There's no way the show is ending with her as the tyrannical ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Of course, I have been totally wrong before — but let's say the show is going to kill her off. The question remains: Who will do it?

HBO

Going off the trailer — and, uh, who is actually left at this point — there are three strong contenders. Firstly, there's Arya Stark.

HBO

It would explain why she's in King's Landing beyond simply deciding revenge isn't her thing after all. And perhaps it would complete Melisandre's prophecy about the "green eyes" she'll kill, if we can agree that Dany's eyes are meant to be green in the show. But it would kind of walk back the resolution Arya reached this week to choose life over death and vengeance — which was honestly one of the highlights of the episode.

There's Tyrion Lannister, the man who believed in Daenerys Targaryen after a lifetime as a cynic. And look how that turned out for him.

HBO

Dany not only destroyed the city, she also caused the deaths of the last remaining members of Tyrion's family. Whom he cared about, despite it all.

Of course, Tyrion also betrayed Dany before this all went down, so if she finds out about that, maybe she'll take HIM down before she gets killed herself.

And then, of course, there's Jon Snow. Who just watched the woman he loves (who also happens to be his aunt) massacre hundreds of thousands of innocent people for NO GOOD REASON.

HBO

Episode 5 spent a lot of time on Jon's shocked reaction to Dany's actions. He was basically ineffectual in the battle against the Night King, so maybe the show was saving up his big ~battle~ for a final showdown against Daenerys.

I can totally see this happening as the ultimate tragic ending to their love story. It would also play back into the idea of Jon Snow being Azor Ahai, and Dany being both his Nissa Nissa and the darkness he has to destroy.
