The council tried to remove him many times, but then just gave up, and he became something of a tourist attraction. In 1982, he was appointed the Wizard of Christchurch.

In 1995, Christchurch held a "Wizard's Conclave" to celebrate 21 years of wizardry. (This is all true.)

The Wizard hovered over a rugby match in a helicopter while chanting a spell, which helped Canterbury win their game. Oh, he also hatched from a giant egg in the city's art gallery, and built a huge nest on top of a university tower.

He was also invited to Tamworth in Australia to do a rain dance to break a drought. It actually worked.
