Selena Gomez Addressed Her Health Issues By Reminding Us All To Put Ourselves First

"If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken."

Just in case you missed it, Selena Gomez looked INCREDIBLE at the American Music Awards on Sunday night.

It was her first public appearance since she announced in August that she would be taking a break for health reasons.

Selena was diagnosed with lupus in 2013, for which she underwent chemotherapy. Though she didn't cite a reason for this year's break, it was speculated to be due to this illness, her resulting mental health issues, and her public fight with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Selena won the AMA for Favorite Female Artist — Pop/Rock, and her acceptance speech was really damn good.

And not just in a "slay, queen" kind of way. She touched on her recent health issues and how important it is for everyone to put their own health and happiness first.

"I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life – whether I liked it or not – and I had to stop," she said. "I had everything, and I was absolutely broken inside."

"I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down," she continued. "But I kept it too much together to where I let myself down."
