McDonald's Loaded Fries Are Goddamn Delicious

Unload them into our faces.

Posted on

These are loaded fries. And for once, Australia actually gets something BEFORE the rest of the world.

Last week, McDonald's Australia started serving up these bad boys, which aren't available anywhere else internationally (yet).

Basically, Macca's have taken its amazing fries of perfection and added either bacon and cheese sauce, or salsa and guac.

Just when you thought their fries couldn't get any better.

We decided to put them to the ultimate test: our faces.

First impressions: They're a little scary looking. The guac is just dumped on in turd-like scoops, and the bacon looks a lot like something scraped from a sarcophagus. Moving past that, they ~are~ still fries, and we're not idiots, so we shoved them into our gobs.

The salsa and guac fries certainly were loaded.

There was a LOT of moisture on those chips – some may even refer to them as ~swampy~. The guac was actually really nice, which we didn't expect from the Golden Arches. Too bad that there was just too much of it, causing the chips to become soggy, which is a quality we're not used to with Macca's fries.

The cheese and bacon variety, on the other hand, are much drier.

They could have been a bit more heavy-handed with the cheese sauce. The bacon does look like they found it behind the deep-fryer. But that's not to say that it wasn't delicious, because it's still bacon, you monsters. It has a very familiar taste of impostor bacon, like the kind you find at Pizza Hut buffets, while still tasting like actual bacon somehow?

According to the Macca's rep we spoke to, it is possible to order ONE serving of fries with BOTH the toppings. So we did.

We went back and ordered a small bacon and cheese sauce, then asked to add the salsa and guac as an extra. Not only did they do that, but this time, THEY GAVE US FORKS!

First impressions: The Frankenstein's monster loaded fries looked like a disaster.

So much going on, sauce in every corner, the bacon looked even drier, and there seemed to be even more cheese sauce than before. But the ultimate test (eating) proved a different result. COMBINING THE SAUCES CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Seriously, they were much better.

The salsa and guac tempers the dryness of the bacon, while the cheese-guac-salsa combo makes the fries taste like deep-fried nacho potatoes. WHY WERE WE WASTING OUR TIME WITH EITHER/OR WHEN *AND* IS TRULY THE WAY OF THE FUTURE.

While it may seem too good to be true, the McDonald's spokesperson told us that loaded fries are a permanent menu item – they are here to stay.

Though they can't confirm whether or not they'll soon be available worldwide.
