What Kind Of Bacteria Are You?!

You are Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus)! S. aureus is one tough bug. It can live on dry surfaces like doorknobs and tables for much longer than many other bacteria. It's also able to fight off antibiotics (medicine that kills bacteria) in its antibiotic resistant form, MRSA. S. aureus can also live in important areas like your heart and skin. Like S. aureus, you're tough and strong! You're a very hard worker and people have definitely noticed. Keep working hard and good things will come your way!

You're Escherichia coli (E. coli)! E. coli is a gut bacteria which helps both you and me digest food. E. coli is naturally found in soil but can be found in food when contaminated. This microbial workhorse is the reason why researchers know so much about how bacteria work. Like E. coli, you're a tinkerer and a puzzler. You're good at solving riddles and problems. Without you, the world would be much more of a mystery.

You're Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)! H. pylori is a bacteria which lives in the lining of the stomach. H. pylori causes ulcers in more the half of the people in the world making it one of the most infectious agents! Like, H. pylori your smile and happiness are infectious. You light up every room when you walk into it and you make the day of all those you meet. Keep on shining!

You're Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii)! A. baumannii is a sneaky bacteria that is resistant to most antibiotics (medicine that kills bacteria). It's so sneaky that researchers and doctors are making every effort to make new antibiotics in order to fight it. A. baumannii has developed these behaviors from its ability to adapt.  Like A. baumannii, you're adaptable and able to change to every situation. You are tough, resilient, and full of possibilities.

You're Cyanobacteria! Cyanobacteria produce most of the worlds oxygen in a process called photosynthesis, which is the conversion of carbon dioxide to oxygen. In fact, even though plants are known to also produce oxygen through photosynthesis, Cyanobacteria did it first. Without Cyanobacteria, we wouldn't have the environment that we live in today!  Like Cyanobacteria, you're a real go-getter. You're an innovator, often the first to think up ideas and the first to try them out. Without you, the world wouldn't work quite the same way. Go get them, tiger!

You're Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile)! C. difficile lives in the human colon (large intestine) usually without causing any issues. In fact, about 5% of people have C. difficile living in their colon. However, when treated with antibiotics (medicine that kills bacteria), C. difficile can attack the lining of the colon causing infection! Like C. difficile, you're shy yet mighty! You're content to read and relax but will speak your mind when asked. You draw your strength from within and many people will envy that of you. 



C. diff infection is getting more and more common in hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities. It kills about 14,000 people a year just in the United States.
