Why Listen to Me?

Jarod Ricks

Hello, everyone!

My name is Jarod and I am a Junior Communication Studies major and Journalism minor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

When I was thinking of what I wanted to talk about I looked up some information on how to create a niche blog. I found that it's easier to create something and keep talking about it if you're actually interested in the topic. Since we will be posting a blog each week, I took that advice and found something that I'm very interested in.

As a Junior in college, I have found a somewhat perfect balance between school, work, and my extracurricular activities. Despite this, I am not perfect. This is the first year in college that I've had a job, classes, and campus involvement commitments all in the same semester. I also moved into an apartment this year and have had to learn how to live on my own.

I wanted to create a blog to share my experience with learning to do what all college students will eventually have to do: become an adult. I want to share how I do things such as plan out my week ahead of time, manage my work with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and my job outside of school, how I coupon and buy groceries on a "broke college kid" budget, how I still have time to relax with my friends, and much more.

What does this break down to? A blog dedicated to Collegiate Lifestyle, Planning, and Productivity.

As mentioned above, this blog is here to help you. You might not think you need the help, but deep down that subjective "I" in you is screaming out for help. It's okay! When I was a Freshman in college I thought I was living the dream. No parents to deal with, no classes back-to-back like in high school and easy homework assignments in all my classes.

Let me tell you how wrong I was.

As I am making my way through my Junior year, everything has become stressful and it seems that everything is a time commitment. I guess that's part of growing up?
