Is Making Gifts For Valentine’s Day Pointless?

So here we are right before another Valentine’s day and as always people who have someone of the other gender in their life will have to think of a gift or a gesture

Haven't we at least once in our life asked ourselves whether all of this is necessary and whether it really stands for anything at all? Now this isn't going to be just another rant about a cheesy holiday – it will be more of an opinion regarding what we've turned in. We will also try to discuss whether we've come to a point where no matter what we do or what we buy it has no meaning, it is hallow and absolutely predictable. We need to know if women (and me) don't already pretty much know what to expect from us (men) when this time of the year comes.

We need to show affection. This is fine and absolutely necessary. But if we think about that type of feeling only when mid-February comes then we are in trouble. Unfortunately more often people do just that. Many relationships after years and years come to a point where exchanging gifts appears as some sort of an obligation. It's like something you "have to do". It's like a chore that once we get over with is …well over. Unfortunately women realise that we feel that way. When you walk out a few days prior to Valentine's day you see every single shop with some sort of love hearts decoration. You see people on the street selling the same flowers again and again. There are balloons – a thousand of them, all the same. The supplier is probably the same for every single merchant in the city. To some extent it can be worse than Christmas.

People are very limited and many of them lack even the slightest imagination when it comes to "picking something" for this holiday. This is also due to the fact that there isn't a lot to choose from. We are used to giving away flowers, chocolate and maybe a stuffed animal. A balloon in the shape of a heart is a bonus. But that's pretty much it. It is doubtful whether any woman would even be thrilled nowadays when Valentine's day approaches. They perhaps know full well what to expect and their men never disappoint. We've turned into robots who are simply programmed to go pick up a teddy bear and a rose and get it over with. Our feelings are rarely present in these gifts. These Chinese made toys represent nothing. We can't wait till February the 14th to show our love to someone. We need to make presents all year long. Flowers should be something that your lady is used to receiving. This is the real treatment people deserve. Otherwise we simply "play by the rules".

Even If we aren't very keen on the holiday we still need to take part in it and do like everyone else does. Our heart might not be into it but we still go ahead and spend money on things that might be forgotten in a week. Just go and ask your girlfriend or wife what your present was last year. Ask her what you got her 365 days ago on that day. She won't know. If you went out for dinner or shared a movie she might recall it. But your gift and the colour of the flowers not so much. Here is what women say when asked what they'd love to get on Valentine's Day. This chart excludes the 1% who opted not to receive anything.

So is that whole atmosphere fake? Do people who want to make some money really care about our relationships? Most of them don't for sure. But you can always find somebody who literally gets ready for Valentine's day every year and hopes to make some couples' day even better. There are always these older ladies who make sweets or cakes especially for this time of the year. If you are able to get your hands on something that is home cooked or baked and give it to your better half this might actually show deeper feelings than usual. If you look for some handmade little gifts (of any sort) you might impress the woman of your life even more than expected. This is possible due to the fact that there are people who don't just buy balloons and flowers on wholesale trying to sell them for a profit. There are those who bake muffins in the shape of a heart or make wristbands and ear-rings especially for that day. These people are the ones who bring the positive feeling about that holiday. People who aren't in it just for the money while putting a bigger effort in coming up with something that is worth it are the once to applaud. Some of the handmade items might include:

    •A jewelry box

    •A Picture frame

    •Home decoration of any time

    •A wristband

    •Decorative cushions

This allows you to be more original in your gift selection. It will also show how genuine your feelings are and the fact that you went out of your way to get something special will show her that you are actually thinking about her more and that you hold her in a higher regard. Surely this might not be an easy task. If you live in the Liverpool area for example you may have to spend some time before finding the best present. It might be easier to find high quality professional man and van service in Merseyside than to obtain the perfect gift for a woman.

So if you haven't bought anything yet, don't rush for a postcard and box of sweets from the first supermarket available. Instead look for a local bakery or maybe a little store for handmade decorations. It's likely that you will find something that is totally worth it there. And you will rest assured that you've separated yourself from the herd.
