Staying in a beach hotel in Arugam Bay or Hikkaduwa such as Sunrise by Jetwing may allow you to simply walk down to beach and engage in the exciting activity. Although if you are planning to travel from Colombo you may want to hire a cab or take the southern highway bus which is the safest option.
