14 Reasons "Carry On" Needs To Be At The Top Of Your Summer Reading List

To simplify, it's Harry Potter meets Twilight but hella GAY!!

The book's protagonist is so beyond lovable. He's thoughtful, brave, and complex. Your heart breaks for his troubles and you can't help but root for him at every turn.

    2. Tyrannus "Baz" Basilton Grimm-Pitch:

There's nothing we love more than a charming bad boy who has surprising depths. If you're "Team Spike" or "Team Eric", you're going to be "Team Baz". He needs to be molded into a real person ASAP.

In addition to queer characters, the book is sure to include PoC. Penny, the main lady of the story, is a brilliant and headstrong Indian girl who Simon would be lost (and probably dead before the book even starts) without.

    4. It's got major Harry Potter vibes:

In the beginning, you might worry that it's TOO MUCH like Harry Potter. There's an orphaned wizard who is considered to be the Chosen One and he has a special relationship with the head of his magical school. But REST ASSURED, it becomes its own fascinating story extremely quickly.

    5. It's also got some Twilight vibes:

The "vibes" being that there's a sexy and mysterious vampire. All of the creepy obsessiveness doesn't carry over. Well, there is some obsessing, but it's not creepy WE PROMISE.

    6. Rainbow Rowell:

The author is best known for writing Eleanor & Park and Fangirl. She's also the current writer of Marvel's The Runaways comic. Basically, she's a nerd girl hero who writes flawlessly. Follow her on Twitter!

    7. It's hella gay:

The most popular YA fiction is seriously lacking in queer content. If you're looking to fill that void, you've come to the right place.

    8. And hella romantic:

Even if, for some reason, you don't go in for queer content (CAN'T RELATE), there is no way your heart won't melt at the intensity of the love and affection between the characters.

    9. It's impossible to put down:

This book will suck you in from the get-go. You'll NEED to know what comes next and find yourself staying up until 5:30 AM just to finish it.

    10. It moves super quickly:

One of the reasons it's hard to put down is because it cuts right to the chase. Imagine starting Harry Potter at Half-Blood Prince. Pure thrills and romance!

    11. The spells:

For lack of a better word, the spells in this book are incredibly charming. They're all super literal and silly.

    12. It's perfect for Harry and Draco shippers:

Recently, it was brought to our attention that a shocking number of people shipped Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. For a while, this appeared to be an insane notion, but after Carry On... we sort of get it.

    13. It has great movie potential:

While there are no current plans to turn Carry On into a movie, there's always room for wizards and vampires on the big screen. LET'S START AN INTERNET CAMPAIGN!!

    14. A sequel is coming:

While the book wraps up beautifully, we are SO SO SO THANKFUL there's a sequel in the works. Wayward Son is expected to be released in 2020. This feels like forever, but we'll be content just reading Carry On over and over and over again until 2020.
