_Hart of Dixie_

This dramedy ran from 1990–1995 and follows big city physician, Dr. Joel Fleischman, who is sent to an eccentric small town in **Alaska** to practice medicine. During its run, the show received four Emmys. The show won "Outstanding Drama Series" in 1992, but the creators considered it a comedy.

_Northern Exposure_

This supernatural drama starred Patricia Arquette and ran from 2005–2011. The show follows a medium who works for the district attorney's office in Phoenix, **Arizona**. _Medium_

This wildly popular reality show starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie took the gals to Altus, **Arkansas** in 2003. The socialites were forced to do low-paying, hard labor jobs, and America was here for it. RIP Tinkerbell.

_The Simple Life_

This 2017 [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GWGwm2gpIf6mywwEAAACF) sensation follows a group of women living in Monterey, **California**, as they deal with their relationships with their spouses, children, and each other. After winning eight Emmys, the limited series was officially greenlighted for a second season, which will feature Meryl Streep! Bonus: The soundtrack is AMAZING.

_Big Little Lies_

This classic _Happy Days_ spinoff ran from 1978–1982 and starred Robin Williams and Pam Dawber. The sitcom follows an alien from the planet Ork who ends up living with a human woman in Boulder, **Colorado**.

_Mork & Mindy_

Who doesn't think of this mother/daughter dramedy when they think of **Connecticut**? Running from 2000–2007, the Amy Sherman-Palladino show followed the journey of Rory and Lorelai in their small town of Stars Hollow, near Hartford. In 2016, fans everywhere rejoiced when a revival was released on [Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/search?jbp=0&jbr=0&jbv=70155618&q=gilmore).

_Gilmore Girls_

This lovable and inspiring animated show started in 2013 and follows a young boy and the magical, humanoid aliens he lives with in the fictional town of Beach City, located on the Delmarva Peninsula. The setting is based on **Delaware** beaches, which creator, Rebecca Sugar, visited as a kid. The first four seasons are currently streaming on [Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/steven-universe)!

_Steven Universe_

_The Golden Girls_

This dramedy, created by and starring Donald Glover, first aired in 2016 and follows a man's everyday life and struggles in Atlanta. The first season received critical acclaim, including two Emmy wins for Glover. The first season is currently streaming on [Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/atlanta)!

_Atlanta_

This '80s crime drama starred the mustachioed Tom Selleck as a a private investigator living in Oahu, **Hawaii**. During its eight-year run, it won two Emmys, including one for Tom's performance. The show was predominately filmed on location in the Aloha State.

_Magnum, P.I._

The sitcom starring Rob Lowe and Fred Savage follows two brothers and their family's law firm in Boise, **Idaho**. _The Grinder_

This sitcom staple ran from 1988–1997 and followed a working-class family in the fictional town of Lanford, **Illinois**. The winner of four Emmys (one for Roseanne and three for Laurie Metcalf), this outspoken sitcom was consistently praised for its portrayal of an American, middle-class family. An eight-episode revival will premiere on March 27, 2018, and will (rejoice!) erase the unfortunate final season.

_Roseanne_

This extremely funny sitcom follows Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and the lovable group of misfits working at the Parks Department in the fictional city of Pawnee, **Indiana**. Running for seven seasons, this mockumentary was nominated for 16 Emmys, but never won. _Parks and Recreation_

This reality show premiered in 2010 and features Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, who travel the states looking for antiques and collectibles. Their home base is located in Le Claire, **Iowa**. _American Pickers_

The long-lasting drama starred Tom Welling and followed the younger years of Clark Kent, before he was known as Superman, in the fictional town of Smallville, **Kansas**. Throughout its 10 seasons, the show won three Emmys for Sound Editing. Currently, the entire series is streaming on [Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/smallville)!

_Smallville_

The crime drama ran from 2010–2015 and starred Timothy Olyphant as Deputy US Marshal Raylan Givens in Lexington, **Kentucky**. During its run, the show won two Emmys, including one for character actress Margo Martindale.

_Justified_

The first season of this [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVU2xlQZIxY7DwvwIAVgK) anthology crime drama starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who played homicide detectives in the **Louisiana** State Police Department. The show won five Emmys in 2014, including one for Directing. The third season is set to star Mahershala Ali.

_True Detective_

This '80s/'90s crime drama followed everyone's favorite mystery writer/amateur detective, Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury), who solved crimes in a small coastal community in **Maine**. The show ran for 12 seasons and earned Lansbury four Golden Globes for her performance.

_Murder, She Wrote_

This [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVU2gkAgT4oNJjhsJAUDk) crime drama ran from 2002–2008 and followed different institutions within Baltimore, **Maryland**. Considered one of the greatest shows in history, it was infamously snubbed by the Emmys, never earning a nomination for "Outstanding Drama Series."

_The Wire_

There is no show that screams **Massachusetts** quite like _Cheers_, which ran from 1982–1993 and followed the employees and regulars of a local bar in Boston. During its run, the beloved sitcom was nominated for 179 Emmys, winning 28 in total. _Cheers_

This '90s sitcom starred Tia and Tamera Mowry, and ran for six seasons. Following twins with differing personalities who were separated at birth, this comedy takes place in the Detroit suburbs in **Michigan**. While it hasn't been officially confirmed, there are currently talks of a revival!

_Sister, Sister_

This classic sitcom ran from 1970–1977 and paved the way for strong female characters on television. This workplace comedy was set in a fictional television station in Minneapolis, **Minnesota**. _The Mary Tyler Moore Show_

Created by and starring Tig Notaro, this [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Pilot/dp/B017APUQCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&keywords=one+mississippi&qid=1516821895&sr=8-2) dramedy follows an LA radio host as she goes back to her hometown of Bay St. Lucille, **Mississippi**. Unfortunately, the show was canceled after two seasons, but did win the Critics' Choice Award for "Most Exciting New Series" in 2016.

_One Mississippi_

This sitcom, which stars America Ferrera, is currently in its third season. The show takes place in a fictional big-box store called Cloud 9, which is located in St. Louis, **Missouri**. The current season is available to stream on [Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/grid/superstore?video_type=episode)!

_Superstore_

This teen drama is a throwback for anyone who was watching Nickelodeon in the early 2000s. Running for three seasons, the show follows a girl who is forced to live with her mother's cousin in **Montana** to avoid ending up in a youth detention center. The show starred Lindsay Felton, who recently appeared in an episode of _OITNB_.

_Caitlin's Way_

This teen western ran from 1989–1992 and starred Stephen Baldwin and Josh Brolin. Taking place right before the Civil War, the show is set in the **Nebraska** territory and follows a group of Pony Express riders.

_The Young Riders_

This hilarious parody of _Cops_ starred Thomas Lennon and other former cast members of _The State_. Running from 2003–2009, the show followed a group of inept police officers who worked in and around Reno, **Nevada**. In 2007, a _Reno 911!_ movie was released.

_Reno 911!_

This horror-comedy stars John C. McGinley in the titular role. It follows a **New Hampshire** town's current and former sheriff as they fight off the supernatural beings that haunt the area. _Stan Against Evil_

This [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVU2c9QptjVFvjSoJAT2f) crime drama was set in Atlantic City, **New Jersey** during the Prohibition. Starring Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson, A.C.'s corrupt treasurer, the show ran from 2010–2014, and won a total of 20 Emmys, including one for Bobby Cannavale.

_Boardwalk Empire_

Considered one of the greatest shows of all time, this crime drama starred Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a teacher-turned-meth maker in Albuquerque, **New Mexico**. During its run, the show received 58 Emmy nominations, winning 16 in total. _Breaking Bad_

While there are infinite shows set in **New York**, this Marvel show from [Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/search?jbp=0&jbr=0&jbv=80002311&q=jessica) takes you all around Hell's Kitchen and ties in with the other _Defenders_ series. Starring Krysten Ritter in the titular role, the show follows an alcoholic woman with super powers who is struggling with PTSD. The second season is set to premiere on March 8, 2018. Fun fact: Every episode of the upcoming season was directed by a woman.

_Jessica Jones_

This teen drama ran from 2003–2012 and took place in the fictional town of Tree Hill, **North Carolina**. The show starred Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty for most of the series' run and was predominately filmed in Wilmington. The show will start streaming on Hulu in February!

_One Tree Hill_

This crime drama/anthology series was inspired by the film of the same name, and first aired in 2014. While much of the show takes place in Minnesota, everything always comes back to the crime family based in **North Dakota**. The show has won five Emmys so far, and the first two seasons are streaming on [Hulu](https://www.hulu.com/grid/fargo?categories=episodes)!

_Fargo_

Before she was Sabrina, Melissa Joan Hart starred in this TeenNick staple, which ran from 1991–1994. The show follows Clarissa Darling and her family in a suburban **Ohio** town. Fun fact: it was the first Nickelodeon show with a female lead, and its popularity paved the way for the female-centric Nick shows that followed.

_Clarissa Explains It All_

The [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVU2gzgvqloNJjhsJAUFb) show ran for two seasons and followed a traveling carnival during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. While the show takes place in multiple locations, it kicks off in Milfay, **Oklahoma**, where a man with healing powers decides to join the group. Although the series was short-lived, it won five Emmys in 2004.

_Carnivàle_

This sketch comedy stars Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen, and takes place solely in Portland, **Oregon**. Currently on its eighth and final season, this quirky comedy has won three Emmys and has featured an array of guest stars. _Portlandia_

This coming-of-age sitcom staple ran from 1993–2000. Following Cory Mathews (Ben Savage) and his group of friends from middle school to college, this lovable show was set in Philadelphia, **Pennsylvania**. In 2014, _Girl Meet World_ aired with the intention of showing the next generation of Matthews. Unfortunately, it was canceled after three seasons. _Boy Meets World_

This animated comedy by Seth MacFarlane has been on the air since 1999. Taking place in the fiction town of Quahog, **Rhode Island**, the show follows the wacky misadventures of the Griffin family. The show has won six Emmys during its run, most recently for "Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance" in 2016. _Family Guy_

This [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVx_dhQi4kmilwgEAAAC9) comedy starred Danny McBride and Walton Goggins as two bumbling, over-the-top high school vice principals. The show was filmed in North Charleston, **South Carolina** and had its second and final season in 2017. This year, Walter won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.

_Vice Principals_

This [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVU2b2A6ZF47DwvwIAT34) western starred Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant, and was set in Deadwood, **South Dakota** in the 1870s. Many historical figures show up throughout the series, including Wyatt Earp and Calamity Jane. During its three seasons, the show won eight Emmys.

_Deadwood_

The musical drama has been on the air since 2012, and follows country music stars living in Nashville, **Tennessee**. Connie Britton was nominated for an Emmy for portraying Rayna Jaymes in 2013. _Nashville_

This sports drama ran from 2006–2011 and starred Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton. The show centered on a high school football coach in Dillon, **Texas** but much of the show was filmed in Austin. It won three Emmys during its run, including one for Kyle Chandler.

_Friday Night Lights_

This [HBO](https://play.hbogo.com/series/urn:hbo:series:GVU2fkgb4HVFvjSoJAUCK) show starred Bill Paxton (RIP), ran from 2006–2011, and followed the lives of a polygamous family in **Utah**. The wives were played by Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloë Sevigny, and Ginnifer Goodwin and the show featured a great supporting cast, including Amanda Seyfried. Throughout its run, the show received nine Emmy nominations.

_Big Love_

Bob Newhart's SECOND extremely successfully show that featured his name in the title ran from 1982–1990 and had one of the most famous series finales of all time. The show followed Newhart and his wife, played by Mary Frann, as they ran an inn in rural **Vermont**. Throughout its run, the show was nominated for 25 Emmys, but never won. _Newhart_

This supernatural teen drama ran from 2009–2017 and produced a spinoff series, _The Originals_, which is about to start its final season. Following the lives of vampire brothers and the human they both love, this fan favorite is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, **Virginia**. _The Vampire Diaries_

This stylized drama/mystery/horror show only ran from 1990–1991, but there was a prequel film, _Fire Walk With Me_, in 1992 and a series reboot in 2017. Set in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, **Washington**, the show follows Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) as he tries to solve the mysterious murder of Laura Palmer. _Twin Peaks_

This drama/horror is based on the comic of the same name and has had two seasons. Starring Patrick Fugit, the show focuses on supernatural horrors, predominately demonic possession, and takes place in Rome, **West Virginia**. _Outcast_

This '90s favorite starred Suzanne Somers and Patrick Duffy as a married couple with multiple kids from previous marriages. _Step by Step_

This western/crime drama originally aired on A&E, but was eventually moved to [Netflix](https://www.netflix.com/search?jbp=0&jbr=0&jbv=70269479&q=longmire) in 2015, where it had its final three seasons. The show follows the sheriff, played by Robert Taylor, of fictional town Absaroka County, **Wyoming**, who teams up with locals to solve crimes in the area.
