Europe's Parliament Wants To Create A Giant Ice Park At The North Pole

Good news for Narwhals, Polar bears and Snowy Owls. Bad news for oil tycoons.

This is the Arctic. A place of magic and mystery

Home to puppy dog eyes

And these guys

This is the European Parliament

Where a baby once tried to vote

And here's Javier Bardem bossing some crockery

So what links all these random but excellent things?

They all support an Arctic sanctuary

The EU Parliament has just passed a resolution calling for the area around the North Pole to be completely off limits to industrial activity

We need this sanctuary, because the top of our world is under threat

Companies like Shell, ExxonMobil and Statoil are moving into the Arctic to drill for more of the oil that's causing the ice to melt in the first place.

That's basically doing this, but replacing the tree branch with, like, the entire world

It's a bit like this bro 'incident'

After the European Parliament supported the Arctic sanctuary today, this happened

And this bear wizard

But some humans are gonna be less happy

That's because right now there's only one rule of Arctic club

You can talk about anything you like. As long as it's how great oil drilling is

But the plucky European Parliament has two friends in its Sanctuary quest

One is Finland, a beautiful Arctic country which supported the idea last year

The other is Greenpeace, whose campaign to defend the Arctic now has five million supporters all over the world

Greenpeace stood up against these guys in the Russian Arctic last year

And they even took a giant awesome polar bear through the streets of London

Lots of people are part of the sanctuary movement. Including Jack White

And Marion Cotillard, who heard the news today

And this guy does too

Paul said: "At some time and in some place we need to say "No more." I believe that time is now and that place is the Arctic."

So will we let the big oil companies destroy the Arctic, and crush us all?

Or will we create a fortress for the ice bears and all humanity?

It's up to you
