Response to Koch Company Denies Responsibility For Shutdown:
The Koch Brothers have struck back at Harry Reid’s contention that they are behind the Tea Party push for a showdown. They have a point — sort of. It is true that they have never explicitly called for a shutdown, but they have pulled out all the stops in supporting the defunding of Obamacare, contributing over $200 million to various right-wing organizations dedicated to the cause. The Tea Party stalwarts in the House have, in turn, seized on the shutdown strategy as the way to stop Obamacare, not because it will work, but because they want any excuse for a shutdown anyway. So, the Koch Brothers may not have engineered the shutdown, but they are the chief financial enablers of it. What’s worse, to be crazy, or to encourage someone to action whom you know is crazy? The Koch brothers have a lot to answer for.
Response to Exclusive: Years After Manning Leaks, State Department Cable System Lacks Basic Security:
Interesting point about State not being able to control access. This whole system was stood up at a time when it was fashionable to complain that we didn’t catch the 9/11 terrorists because information was stove piped in various agencies, so everybody went overboard in the opposite direction, leading inevitably to Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden. Seems like there is a basic lack of competence at the managerial level if no one anticipated this.
