All The Celebrity Hair And Makeup You Missed At The 2019 Oscars

Beauty and the makeup details I know y'all want to know.

Angela Bassett

"My inspiration for Miss Angela's look was the Roaring 20s," said D'Andre Michael, celebrity makeup artist who worked with MAC Cosmetics on this epic look. "It was the evening look in the Jazz Era, Flapper girls, wealth, clubs, etc. It was that era that ushered in many changes for women in fashion, make-up and hair. Women came into themselves, they were more confident in their sexuality. They became feminine, seductive and sultry."

Pro tip: To achieve Angela's dynamic look, use the Nude Model palette from MAC to create an everyday smokey-eye. And to achieve Angela's enviable pout? It's MAC's powder kiss lipstick in the shade 'Velvet Punch' and 'Reverence' (D'Andre created an everyday ombré for the lip, lining her outer lip line with 'Vino' and 'Nightmoth').

Lady Gaga

For the night, Gaga went for a young, fresh blonde color in an upswept hairstyle that I LOVED. Celebrity hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras, shared with BuzzFeed some of the tips to achieve Gaga's perfect look. Using the Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo and Masque to coat the hair, Aspiras then went in with the GHD curve soft curl iron to curl the hair, creating a loose soft curl. Oh, and then Gaga's hair was pinned into two ponytails, and the volume was created at the top of the head and sealed with a finishing spray. Fabulous!

For makeup, Sarah Tanno used her new go-to Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Steel(etto), and applied the neutral shades to gently shape the eye. Next, she tight-lined the eyes with Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Steel(etto) , a gorgeous soft grey matte shade.

Charlize Theron

“Healthy hair is the foundation of all great style," celebrity hairstylist, Adir Abergel, told BuzzFeed. "Virtue products with Alpha Keratin 60ku® instantly restore and replenish hair, giving me the perfect canvas to create a great look for even the most show-stopping occasion." For the night, Abergel created a classic bob inspired by the 1970’s and updated with a modern twist. He pulled references from two iconic films to conceptualize the specific look: the sleek bob with rolled under ends on Michelle Pfeiffer in “Scarface” and the famous asymmetrical bob on Julie Christie in “Shampoo.” Charlize’s bob, which sits right above the collar bone, was side swept and tucked behind one ear with some slight movement to enhance the blunt cut.

Glenn Close

For the night, celebrity makeup artist Kai Pritchard worked on giving Close's amazing beauty look, using the True Skin Radiant Priming Serum to prep the skin and then the illuminator in "Cosmic Dancer" to add a ton of brightness to the skin.

Ashley Graham

Celebrity makeup artist Kate Synnott shared her inspiration behind the look with BuzzFeed. She said, "Sophia Loren’s iconic look, the structured feline eye and movie star lip was our inspiration for tonight’s Oscars. Her incredible gown designed by Zac Posen accentuated her beautiful hourglass shape, the whole vibe was elegance personified!”

Pro tip: For that glow? “I lightly sprayed Ashley’s arms and décolletage with ALLEVEN London’s Colour Shield GLOW in Sand to create a luminizing veil all over her body.”

“I always start with a good skin prep, which means to clean, polish and hydrate," Simone Segall, celebrity makeup artist, told BuzzFeed. "I used Skyn Iceland products to prep Laura’s skin before makeup application." Unrelated, but I personally am OBSESSED with Skyn's products, so I swear by this completely!

Regina King

Regina King's makeup wasn't just refreshing, but budget-friendly (which honestly, I am so thankful for). Her lashes, Lash Couture, were only $6.99, and you can grab them at ULTA!

Celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright rocked out Jennifer's low bun, which was swept back with curly baby hairs pulled out. How effortless was this? I'm recreating THIS, RIGHT NOW.

Awkwafina

Mai Quynh started by prepping her skin with Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque. She left this mask on for about 5 minutes and then rinsed it off. Then she massaged Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate into her skin and added Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream and Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado under her eyes and lids.

For foundation? For her face, she applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 5.75 using a damp BeautyBlender sponge, and concealed under the eyes with Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Concealer in 3.5.

Laura Harrier

Laura Harrier had one of my favorite looks of the night, with a green eye look and pink-tinted lips. I'm always here for more when it comes to makeup!

Danielle Macdonald

Love this. Love this. Love this. Love this. Macdonald's look gave us an accessible look with curly hair, wispy lashes, and a neutral lip.

Amandla Stenberg

To prep the skin, Amandla’s makeup artist Kali Kennedy used the Yes To Coconut Energizing Coffee Eye Mask to de-puff and energize the skin around Amandla’s eyes. “I like to use this face mask after it’s been refrigerated for faster results when you’re in a time crunch,” Kali told BuzzFeed.

Constance Wu
