Asian Privilege

Details about a life fraught with Asian American privilege.

Yes I have Asian privilege

When I turn on the TV I see all Asian people.

I love seeing myself represented in so many shapes and sizes, playing so many different roles.

Asian privilege means being born into a race where I automatically get an “A” in every class.

And succeed in everything I try.

And everyone believes that I worked hard.

Asian privilege is people calling me part white.

Boys saying, “I’ve never hooked up with a part white girl before, wana be my first?”

And when I tell them that’s racist they say, “how could it be racist, I love white people so much I have a tattoo of white words on my body”

Asian privilege is being so unique, no one ever has any trouble telling us apart.

Asian privilege is when all my white friends try to be like me.

They try to make their eyes like mine. They wear brown contacts, some even get surgery.

All my textbooks throughout school only focused on the Asian American experience.

Everyone in class kept saying, “we get it, we get it, Chinese built the railroad”

Asian privilege is getting a 4 year long forced vacation

Then, so other races won’t get jealous, completely forgetting it ever happened.

Asian privilege is being overly represented in government and corporate leadership positions.

I mean, I look at congress and sometimes can’t tell if its the Chinese politburo. So many yellow faces!

We’re so privileged the government made laws ~exclusively~ for us.

So I guess there’s a reason they call us the model minority - we’re everywhere!

I love watching the news and hearing all the pundits so accurately represent the Asian-American experience.

Thanks for reminding us we’re so rich!

Thanks for reminding us we’re so popular!

Step aside white privilege, there’s a new predominant strain of privilege in town.
