    What About Bob…cats?

Even though a Bill Murray/cats Buzzfeed post is badly needed, there is some crazy stuff going on with bobcats in Illinois. A small group of hunters/trappers in the southern part of the state want to reverse a 42-year ban on killing bobcats. The bill (HB 352) is currently sitting on the Governor’s desk.

Bobcats, like this little guy, were a threatened species in the 1970s as a result of hunting and trapping. As their numbers grew, so did the desire to kill them for fur and trophies.

    Like this smiling lady!

    And this happy fella!

    Don’t forget the kids!

The main proponents of the bill (HB 352) are these guys, and they made up some pretty amazing scenarios to get people to agree with them.

What say you, Rep. John E. Bradley: “I saw one of these walk across my backyard and I thought I was looking at a saber-toothed tiger.”

Hmmmm, OK, what about you, Rep. Charles E. Meier: “I have started finding young fawns, and the only thing I find is a pool of blood in the wheat and their head…Bambi is being killed by bobcats.”

Your turn, Rep. Ed Sullivan: “So imagine a bobcat that’s 60 pounds that could attack and kill something 10 times its weight.” … “Think of a small child, or a small woman, or a small boy, that could be attacked and carried away.”

In reality, bobcats eat mostly small prey, like rodents and rabbits, which some farmers might consider pests. Thanks for helping, bobcats!

Speaking of cats, bobcats are generally a little larger than a good-sized house cat and like to do what cats like to do. Like play!

    And take baths together.

    Maybe some lounging.

    It’s a bond that can’t be broken.

Except when you stuff one of them.

Even Green Bay Packers lover, Olivia Munn thinks this is a bad idea.

If you think this is all a little crazy, join the Chicago Sun Times, Chicago Tribune, Sierra Club Illinois, The Humane Society of the US, Illinois Environmental Council, Jane Goddall and tons of other organizations and ask Gov. Rauner to veto this bill.

Finally, Bill Murray with a cat.
