How Much Of A Pasta Snob Are You?

[Rigatoni](https://www.etymonline.com/word/rigatoni) is a form of tube-shaped pasta of varying lengths and diameters, originating in Italy. They are larger than penne and ziti, and sometimes slightly curved.

All you need to make basic [pasta dough](https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1014586-basic-dough-for-fresh-egg-pasta), like linguine, is flour, eggs, and salt (for taste).

Traditionally [manicotti](https://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/cheese-stuffed-manicotti-266955) is stuffed with a ricotta mixture that will sometimes also have mozzarella and/or parmesan in it. NEVER should it have cheddar.

[Farfelle](https://www.barilla.com/en-us/products/pasta/classic-blue-box/farfalle) is commonly known as bow-tie pasta. Though it should probably be known as butterfly pasta since "Farfelle" is derived from the Italian word for butterflies.

[Sicily](https://theculturetrip.com/europe/italy/articles/a-region-by-region-guide-to-italian-pasta/) is known for ziti. [Ziti](https://www.barilla.com/en-us/products/pasta/classic-blue-box/ziti) are extruded pasta tubes sized smaller than rigatoni but larger than mezzani.

According to The Smithsonian, [spaghetti and meatballs](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/is-spaghetti-and-meatballs-italian-94819690/) originated in the US. [Fettuccine Alfredo](http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/fall10/hoppner_v/history.html) and [lasagna](https://www.cucinaventi.com/history-lasagna-pasta/) originated in Italy, and [macaroni pies](https://www.eater.com/2017/1/23/14333216/macaroni-pie-scotland) originated in Scotland.

To make [gnocci](https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/18465/gnocchi-i/), peel and boil potatoes to make mashed potatoes. Then add the mashed potatoes to a mix of flour, egg, and salt to create a plump, fluffier dough.

One type of pasta [Rome](https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2017/sep/03/best-spaghetti-carbonara-in-rome-chef-heinz-beck) is know for is Carbonara. [Carbonara](https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/12965-spaghetti-carbonara) is an Italian pasta dish from Rome made with egg, hard cheese, guanciale, and pepper.

[Conchiglie](https://www.recipetips.com/glossary-term/t--35353/conchiglie-pasta.asp) is commonly known as "shells" or "seashells" pasta.

Pasta isn't your life, but that's good. Now you can go to any restaurant and get pasta you enjoy without having to be snobby about it.
