18 "Riverdale" Moments Ranked From Relatively Ridiculous To Completely Outrageous

How the tickle fetish storyline got the green light is beyond me.

There’s over the top and then there’s Riverdale... Now I love a farfetched storyline as much as the next person, but this show really knows how to push the boundaries.

    The CW

Here are 18 of the most questionable Riverdale moments ranked from relatively ridiculous to completely outrageous. Truth be told, I don’t know how some of these storylines ever saw the light of day.

    🚨 Spoilers ahead!!! 🚨

    18. Archie forming the Red Circle.

    The CW

When Archie’s dad was shot by the Black Hood, he assembled a group to patrol the streets and hunt the murderer down. I just need to know why they were topless in their promo video? Was that somehow meant to be threatening? And why were teenage boys expected to keep the streets of Riverdale safe from a literal serial killer?

    17. Mr. Chipping’s unexplained death.

    The CW

Jughead’s boarding school teacher, Mr. Chipping, has one of the most confusing deaths on the show, and that’s saying something. The worst part is we never actually find out the reason behind his sudden death. Mr. Chipping deserved better.

    16. All the musical episodes.

    The CW

Riverdale is already chaotic enough without the need for musical episodes and unfortunately, we had to sit through three. Watching the high schoolers take on Carrie, Heathers, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch and belt their way through each 40-minute episode was definitely something I could’ve lived without.

    15. The Vixens’ funeral outfits.

    The CW

Did the Vixens really have an all-black cheerleading uniform specially made just for funerals? Did they not have other black clothes in their wardrobe? Is a cheerleading uniform even appropriate funeral attire? So many questions, so little time.

    14. Archie getting attacked by a grizzly bear.

    The CW

While Archie is hiding out in the woods to avoid Hiram Lodge, he's brutally attacked by a bear. He lies there covered in blood, completely lifeless – it looks like he might be knocking on death’s door. However, by the next episode, he is larger than life and practically injury-free. I don’t know what’s more ridiculous, the fact that Archie got mauled by a bear or that he only had a scratch to show for it.

    13. Cheryl stalking Josie and giving her a bloody pig’s heart.

    The CW

One of the many chaotic storylines in season two was Josie discovering that she had a stalker. Over time the stalker’s advances become more and more terrifying, including leaving her threatening love notes and a pig’s heart! We later find out that the stalker was actually her good friend Cheryl trying to frame Chuck, in order to stop the two from dating. What an odd way to deter your friend from getting to know someone.

    12. Jughead’s infamous “I’m a weirdo” speech.

    The CW

There’s cringe and then there’s Jughead-coming-out-as-a-weirdo cringe. How the writers thought this speech was acceptable is beyond me.

    11. Kevin selling tickle fetish videos online.

    The CW

Amidst the chaos in season four, Kevin finds himself strapped for cash and decides to start making tickle festish videos. He could’ve started babysitting or tutoring to make extra money, but no, the writers had him making tickle fetish videos. The devil works hard but Riverdale’s writers work harder.

    10. Cheryl keeping Jason’s corpse in the house.

    The CW

Remember when Cheryl kept her dead brother’s corpse in the basement, dressed him up, and had full on conversations with him? Yeah, Riverdale what were you thinking?

    9. Evelyn turning out to be Edgar’s wife, not his daughter.

    The CW

Just when we thought matters couldn’t possibly get any worse, we found out that Edgar Evernever’s "daughter," Evelyn, is actually his wife! She married the cult ring leader over a decade earlier and had been posing as a teenager to lure vulnerable teens to the Farm ever since. Sorry, what?

    8. Jughead faking his own death and everyone thinking it was a great idea.

    The CW

Let’s be honest, there was absolutely no way Riverdale was going to kill off Jughead, he’s their resident weirdo after all. So after teasing his death, it came as no surprise that he was still very much alive. What was surprising was that he faked his own death to avoid his boarding school bullies, and his friends and family all thought it was a stellar plan.

    7. The introduction of Dark Betty.

    The CW

In season one, we were introduced to Betty’s dark alter ego, and what a ride that was. For some unknown reason, Dark Betty has a completely different wardrobe to the vanilla Betty we all know and love. She wore a black wig and lingerie and gave zero fucks about anything. At one point she almost boiled Chuck alive in a hot tub after he lied about a sexual encounter with Veronica. It was all very strange. Thank God they retired Dark Betty after season one.

    6. Chic being revealed to be the Gargoyle King.

    The CW

The fact that someone was running around Riverdale in a black cloak, animal skull mask, and tree branches was already the pinnacle of ridiculousness for me but we also had to spend the best part of season three trying to figure out who was underneath the outrageous costume. In a completely implausible turn of events, it was revealed that Chic (with the guidance of Penelope Blossom) was the Gargoyle King. As far as we knew, Chic had been killed in season one, so this was a plot twist and a half.

    5. Polly’s twin babies being thrown into a fire.

    The CW

During a Farm ritual, Polly and Alice threw Polly’s toddlers into a fire – that isn’t even the wildest part of the storyline. After being sacrificed, the babies somehow floated away into the night sky. Where the fuck did the babies go and why did we never get an explanation for this? I will never forgive Riverdale for this moment.

    4. Betty having the “serial killer genes.”

    The CW

When Betty was a child, a doctor informed Alice that she has the serial killer genes and a predisposition to violence. Just when you thought the plot couldn’t possibly get any more outlandish, the writers somehow managed to one-up themselves.

    3. The reveal that Alice was working with the FBI the whole time.

    The CW

According to this completely absurd storyline, Alice was never brainwashed by the Farm. In fact, she was working with the FBI from the get-go in order to take them down. So why did she willingly throw her grandchildren into a fire and almost drown to death during the ascension ceremony? Make it make sense, Riverdale.

    2. Literally everything that went down at The Sisters of Quiet Mercy.

    The CW

When Betty is sent to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy in season three, we realised that the nuns are hiding something. It turns out they were in partnership with Hiram Lodge and had been drugging their patients for years! It really took Betty – a teenager – to expose the sisters and free the kids under their care.

    1. The Farm turning out to be an organ-harvesting ring.

    The CW

We all knew the Farm was up to no good when they arrived on the scene. Not even Chad Michael Murray’s good looks could convince us otherwise. But somehow, the nature of the Farm was so much more perverse than we could have ever imagined. It turned out to be a cult designed to brainwash teenagers and wait for it... harvest their organs!!! They really woke up and chose violence with this storyline.
