People Are Calling Out This Halloween Store's Offensive "Native American" Costumes

"I really didn't think that I would still see such costumes."

People are calling out a Halloween store for selling stereotypical costumes depicting Indigenous people.

Many people have flagged the costume for cultural appropriation, but it's still for sale online and at Spirit Halloween's physical stores.

Hey @SpiritHalloween, curious as to why you think this is still okay in 2016? Ps. It's not.

"I really didn't think that I would still see such costumes," said Danika, a woman in Victoria, British Columbia, who tweeted out this photo. (She did not want to give her full name.)

"There's been a lot of education over the last few years about why these kinds of costumes aren't OK, and I am sad that the message hasn't gotten through yet," she told BuzzFeed News.

Danika added that there's a large Indigenous community in Victoria, making it extra insulting for the company to sell such costumes there.

Spirit Halloween sells other Native American costumes, like this "Queen of the Tribe" number.

Friendly reminder not to buy racist Native American costumes @SpiritHalloween !!!!

Hey @SpiritHalloween are you behind these racist "costumes"?

The company's cultural offerings also include "Voodoo Queen" and "Geisha" outfits.

    Also: "Mexican Man."

Many people have pointed out the offensive costumes, but the company has so far not responded publicly.
