The August Lineup For Netflix Australia Has Dropped And There's Seriously So Many Good Things

    *Gets comfy.*

By now, the world is in a perpetual state of doom and gloom, but at least the sun is shining and there's a kiss of spring in the air.

Plus, it's nearly the end of the month (what, how did we get here so quickly again?!), which means it's time to tell you what the Netflix bigwigs have planned for August.

First up, the return of three of my personal faves: The inspiring competition that is Glow Up (August 4), the guilty pleasure that is Selling Sunset (August 7) and the coming-of-age drama that is Trinkets (August 25).

If you haven't heard of Glow Up, add it to your list immediately. It's basically like America's Next Top Model, but a UK version that deals with makeup instead. The contestants not only come from a range of backgrounds, but are hella creative. Plus, there's some amazing judges — like, last season they had Nikkie de Jager (aka NikkieTutorials) appear in one of the challenges. Oh, and the episodes are around 20-30 mins, so it's perfect for binge-watching.

Selling Sunset runs in a similar vein, in that it's a reality TV show — but this one is about a bunch of flashy real estate agents selling high-end residential properties in Los Angeles. The houses are to die for (seriously, I want to live in all of them) and the drama is just about as catty as you would expect it to be.

And lastly, Trinkets is a teen drama with a bit of a twist. The three main girls — Elodie, Moe and Tabitha — become friends after finding each other at a Shoplifters Anonymous meeting. The characters feel authentic and the storyline is interesting, so I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for something new to watch. Plus, there's only two seasons (including the one dropping on Netflix in August), so it's easy to catch up on.

There'll also be new seasons of 3% (August 14) and Lucifer (August 21).

The Brazilian dystopian thriller, 3%, is back for Season 4 — and I think it's high time I watch this series because it sounds so damn interesting.

Meanwhile, Lucifer fans will be happy to hear that their favourite series is back for Season 5, which will explore the character's tumultuous return.

As well as some new docos and series to check out, like Immigration Nation (August 2), (Un)Well (August 12) and Biohackers (August 20).

Immigration Nation is a documentary series, that follows the ongoing struggles in America's broken immigration system — which makes it feel super topical, considering all the other issues that are going on in the world at the moment.

On the other hand, (Un)Well takes a deep dive into the lucrative wellness industry, exploring if products live up to their much-hyped promises.

And lastly, Biohackers sounds like an exciting and thrilling new series to sink your teeth into. It deals with a young woman called Mia, who goes to medical school and attempts to get close to a professor who she suspects had a hand in her past family tragedy. While on her mission, she gets tangled in the world of biohacking.

And let's not forget about the usual dose of Hollywood blockbusters. This month, you can press play on popular flicks like Shutter Island (August 1), Burlesque (August 1) and Doctor Sleep (August 5).

Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros

Shutter Island is one of my top five films — the cinematography, the acting, the storyline. I could go on FOREVER and if you haven't watched it yet, it's a sign to finally watch this masterpiece.

That's all for this month! See you in spring, folks!
